is this true? is this safe? Is there anything else I can do to cool him out outside of going to the vet and paying a fee to ask?

You have two choices....go to a vet and pay a fee for proper advice that will benefit your dogs health....or you, myself and any other "lay person" can guess and hope for the best when it comes to the dogs health. I don't take advice from anyone other than my vet when it comes to my dog (not all dogs react the same way to different medications, just like people), and she will often answer a question like this by return phone call.

No this is NOT safe. My Aunt had a dog die after ingesting adult tylenol. If you go to a local pet store they sell calming aids for dogs. Walmart now sells some to. They are usually by the flea meds but I don't know how well they work. I had a min pin with SEVERE separation anxiety I bought him some called Calm eeze at pet smart and they worked great. I'd pop him one about 20 minutes before I left and when I got home he'd be happily chewing a toy or sleeping in a clean crate instead of hollering and turning circles ina pee/poop filled one. This website http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ has some good ones. Once you get to the site type calm aids in the search area and it will bring them up. Some good ones are Content-UM Tablets and Drops and Vita-Treat Pet Calm. Hope this helps!!

Is baby aspirin safe-- Yes.

Will it make him sleepy-- No

Research melatonin for that purpose. It is a supplement sold at any department store that will help him sleep. Research it on the web. It is nontoxic even in high doses.

No, aspirin won't make him sleepy and should only be given under vet recommendation (he knows your dog and his medical condition). Benedryl is often used at a mg/lb every 8-12 hours and is very safe. Again, just call your vet to make sure it isn't contraindicated with your particular dog (especially if he is on other medications).

Hi Sabrina-
The vet told me to give my dog, basset hound a half of a tablet for motion sickness.
It seems to work.
Avery doesn't get sick.
He will nap for a long time.
I would call you local vet.

You really should consult with a vet. But I am pretty sure it is Benadryl that you can use.

I used to give my chihuahua aspirin all the time
as she got older 'cause I knew she had lots
of pain. It's ok, it will cause him to be relaxed
and he will go to sleep a lot easier.
