The air suspension only goes down when the car is off for a while like a couple of hours. No warning light is coming on, on the dash.

When you shut off the car there is 2 phases to the air suspension one is as soon as all doors are closed the car gets lowered just a little maybe a inch or less. After an hour the system makes another check which is to level the car. You didn't say if it is going all the way down because that should never happen. So if it is lowering to low after setting for a while then the problem is the leveling portion of the system is malfunctioning. But first you need to determine if the car is lowering to much.

It's most likely a leak in the air springs. If you're really insistent on finding our for yourself, if you can weasel yourself under the back of the car far enough (just after shutting it off) spray the air bags with a solution of soapy water. If you see large bubbles on the side of the bags, congratulations, you've won yourself a potentially very expensive replacement.

Or, as an alternative, the aftermarket sells a set of springs that just pop right into place where the air bags went. You then usually have to clip a wire at the air suspension module to disable the check suspension light. This costs usually less than half of the cost of replacing the airbags, and I've never had a customer come back and tell me they wished they'd spent the money on new air bags.

Is the car bottoming out or just lowering? It is supposed to lower about 3/4 of an inch when turned off. You will hear the compressor vent the air in the lines. It will also level itself if parked on an incline. If it is going to the ground in the back then you have a leak in either an air bag or solenoid, one of the lines, or the vent solenoid/mechanism on the compressor is bad.

If it is letting the car settle all the way down, have the rear air bags and lines checked. If the problem continues it can causes problems with the compressor down the road.

Could be a bad pressure relief valve on the pump. Probably a leak in the lines, shocks or fittings---have it checked out by a shop or spray some soapy water on the fittings and lines to check for a leak.
