Almost every dog I have ever had has had Pano. I am not a fan of any kind of pain meds. It just makes them feel better and then they use the leg more and then seem more lame when the meds wear off. And since the condition resolves on it's own, I do not like giving meds that may have side effects for a bengin condition.

Be sure if it continues too long you have x-rays. An x-ray often will not prove pano, but it can rule out other conditions...like OCD, elbow dysplasia, and hip dysplasia.
Those would be more serious and finding them early makes a difference with the outcome.

It is panosteitis...a large breed dog lameness. Here is a website that gives you a lot of details:

It could take a few months to run it's course, but they usually make a full recovery. Just use the Rimadyl as directed for pain.

probably said panosteitis which is a developmental condition seen in many large breed puppies. Veterinarian gave carprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, similar to ibuprofen but much, much safer in dogs for pain.
