For starters you don't wear rings in your tongue. You wear barbells.
My tongue piercing was my first professional piercing that I got when I was 16, and I am 20 now. When I first got it pierced the only thing I had to get used to was having something constantly in my mouth. I eventually did get used to it, and I don't even notice it anymore. Just wear jewelry that's the correct length for you after the swelling goes down, and be careful not to bite on a ball while you're eating -- that hurts!
However, I ended up taking that one out and getting it re-pierced at a larger gauge. The one I had would not stretch, and I have other plans for my tongue; so I took it out, waited a month, and got it re-pierced at 6 gauge. Since then I have stretched it to 2 gauge.
The most painful part in the tongue piercings I have had was definately the clamp. The first artist I went to clamped that thing down all the way. Apart from the clamp I didn't feel a thing. The second time I got it done (6 gauge) I didn't feel the clamp at all (different piercer..) and the only thing I felt was the immediate stretch from 8 gauge to 6 gauge. Swelling does suck, but if you take ibuprophen (sp?) and suck on ice a lot it should only last 2-3 days, if that.
If you want it, I'd say go for it! People on here will give you crap about it, but it seems that a lot of people who post on here are extremely immature about piercings. Hope I helped some.

I've had my tonuge pierced for almost 10 years. It hurt when I got it done. I didn't eat solid food for about a week and a half because of the swelling. My mouth was sore. I have a dent in the top of my mouth and the bottom because of the balls on both ends of it. Once the swelling goes down don't forget to change it to a smaller gage. I think the biggest thing was eating. Still bite down on it on occasion. I like my tongue ring. People don't even know that I have it because I don't talk with my mouth wide open. Hope this helps..... Oh and just make sure to follow the after care instructions!!!!

The tongue is a muscle so you feel no pain when you get your tongue pierced and you also don't bleed, unless you get someone to pierce your tongue that has no idea what they're doing and they pierce through your vessel. If the person that pierces your tongue doesnt make you lift up your tongue so they can look for the vessels before piercing...stop them and leave...it's not worth taking a chance at bleeding out...
Getting used to the tongue ring isn't too bad, you have to keep ice (chipped works best) on your tongue the whole first night to keep the swelling down and also take 2 regular advil to help prevent the swelling. It may take a few weeks to be able to retrain your tongue to move to the correct places in your mouth so that you can eat solid food again so be ready to drink liquids and eat stuff that you don't have to chew...like yogurt, pudding, apple sauce, icecream, etc. You will most likely feel up to eating solid food before your ready and that first time you bite down on the tongue ring is all you need to learn your lesson...after a few weeks you'll be ready to change out your piercing bar for a shorter one...and from there on nothing is really much different then not having one...well...except for sexual encounters...

My tongue hurt the worst of my piercings. I couldn't hardly eat, had to constantly use Listerine to kill germs, had stringy stuff coming out the hole, was constantly sucking on ice and couldn't talk right for over a week. Was it worth it? I love my tongue ring but I would recommend getting an acrylic ball when you can. I chipped 4 teeth with the metal one I had. I've had mine for 11 years now. I can leave it out for months and months at a time and it won't close up. I take it out when I get tired of it. Get the gum that won't stick to dentures cuz if you don't you will have a mess. Good luck.

TONGUE ring heals in 2 months, feels healed in like each and every week and a 0.5, and this is virtually impossible to get an infection. abdomen ring takes as much as a 300 and sixty 5 days to heal and can get contaminated quite because of the fact of clothing. i might say abdomen because of the fact it will possibly be your first make it something hidden. I rather have the two. have been given the tummy first, virtually have been given contaminated because of the fact I positioned on my pants to my bellybutton and it rubbed against it till ultimately i ended. abdomen hurts fairly greater yet the two quite a lot do not harm in any respect.

I just got my tongue pierced Friday the 10th of October. I am really a big baby when it comes to needles and pain, and mine didn't hurt me at all. The only thing that you have to watch is eating very slowly, because I accidentally ripped mine trying to eat a pork chop..lol! It is all better now and I have had no problems. My advice is to get a bag of Sonic ice, gallon of ice cream, and Applesauce. Oh and have fun!

My suggestion truly -- is to not get one. I had one for a year or 2 I think? It hurt like Hell when I got it, couldn't talk normally for a week. I ended up chipping a tooth with the damn thing and one of my friends who had one actually tore their tongue. So speaking from experiance don't.
