Slauson and Crenshaw is right on the edge of Windsor hills. Windsor hills was a great place to live 50 years ago but the area is pretty rough at this time. Primarily inhabited by African Americans, the neighborhood consists of single family homes and some small apartments. It is relatively close to Inglewood. With Hollywood park and the Forum about a 10 minute drive away. There are some good neighborhoods in the Inglewood area. Your teaching job will probably be something out of a movie. Punks, guns, gangs and drugs with a few good kids thrown in to make it worth while. good luck

You know, some people will blow smoke out their rear and tell you it's a Tiparillo. In a public forum like this, you occasionally get a lot of people who have no idea what they are talking about, and yet post an answer that has nothing to do with the truth.

Have any of you posters been in that area? Probably not. I HAVE. In fact, Mrs. Obviousman teaches at an elementary school not far from that location. I've been through that area many times.

I really hate that term "ghetto". It's so overused, and has strayed so far from it's original meaning that it shouldn't even be the same word. It's use is an insult to all the people who live and work in that area.

Here's the WORD on the subject. That particular area is actually OK. It has a lot of middle class and working-class African Americans, as well as other ethnic groups. The homes are reasonably well-kept, especially as you head up into the Windor Hills area, where you have a lot of very nice homes. If you want to know how a school is doing, just Google "API scores" for that school. Those numbers tell a lot.

If you have an opportunity to teach there with LAUSD, take it. Despite all the problems at LAUSD, it pays pretty well and has good benefits.

What Obvious said.

I wouldn't recommend living there, but working there is fine. Just don't run out of gas, or anything.

And thank you for being a teacher.
