ok so every now and then the bridge of my foot completly locks up getting to the point where i can't even walk on it without falling over.

First what type of shoes are you wearing? Shoe have a lot to do with how we damage ourselves. Think about it the foot carries the weight of the body and has many bones. If you are wearing inappropriate footwear, then the foot is not going to be supported, it will not be able to bend how it is supposed to bend and later in life you are going to have problems. Try a different pair of shoes with supports for areas like the arch.
