I pay for direct TV and get local channels. I want to find a way to get local channels from Pittsburgh Pa. or Scranton Pa. Is there some kind of receiver I can buy that will pick them up?

DirecTV will not sell local channels to you out of your area due to the fact the local advertisers want DirecTV to make you watch their advertisement vs someones advertisements halfway across the country.
Now, if you live in a remote area and have a REALLY REALLY hard time picking up your local channels over a TV with just an antenna then they will give you a choice of what city's locals you would like. They have some kind of meter that will determine if you are eligible or not. Trust me, its ridiculous how bad the signal has to be before you are eligible.
As the previous answerer said, you can set the equipment up yourself and as long as someone in the Pittsburg area gets the bill and pays the bill for you, that would work.

Another reason they dont allow you to get locals from another state is because if you could you could watch NFL games (or other) from another market and they want you to buy the NFL Ticket.
Its all about big dollars and greed.

You would need to install the equipment yourself and order the package to a PA address, you might try requesting it anyway and see what they say.
