If you think it is boring do yourself and any future patients you would have a favor and don't get into the field. We are in this field because we care about people and their health. We educate them, befriend them, and make their life better by keeping them healthier. The so-called money should be the LAST reason, not the first!

A dental hygienist is a very worthwhile and rewarding profession. It is usually quite lucrative and most hygienists build up a good relationship/rapport with their patients. It is also satisfying to see patients' oral hygiene and dental health improve with treatment, especially if they started out with gum disease, perio problems etc - often resulting in lack of confidence and often low self esteem.
Go for it - you can really make a difference and it is a job you can always go back to after having a family. Hygienists will always be in demand.

If it sounds boring to you, then don't do it.
Why do you think you SHOULD do it? For the money? For the satisfaction that you're helping someone? For the independance of making your own hours?
Why do you think you SHOULDN'T do it? Because you'll be doing the same thing over and over again for every patient? Because you'll be bored? Because you'll have to take continuing education classes to keep up your licensure?
You need to ask yourself those questions... why not ask the hygienist that works in your dentist's office... then you may get a better picture of what's involved and be able to make a decision.

There is nothing boring about a woman who makes her own cash. Dental hygienists make a decent living. You should not be as worried about the title as your are the line of work. If you can see yourself walking through the door everyday, then you will be happy. Do you enjoy that line of work? "If you do something that you love, then you will not work a day in your life"
