I would like personalized details and advice of places to go....not just 'buy a map'...I could figure that much out on my own.

Griffith Park Observatory.

Angels Flight, Disney Building, Farmer's Market
in Downtown Los Angeles. Ang. F is like a little trolley car since 1904 that goes up a huge flight of stairs. it's back in operation, and really neat--something to see.

Disney Philharmonic 111 SOUTH GRAND next to Our Lady Cathedral of Angles. Check this out also inside. D. Phil is brand new a couple of years old.

Angel F. THIRD and HILLl Street On West Corner. Grand Central Market is there too, so give it a look inside. Take $$ with your for parking, and meters.

Grauman's Chinese Theatre 6925 HOLLYWOOD BLVD.

Phillipe's Restaurant 1002 NORTH ALAMEDA STREET. over a 100 years old. Check it out. Close to Alameda and Main. they do have a website.

Olvera Street Has the oldest Mission Church the small chapel one. It also has food stands, stores, the excellent Rest. La Golondrina--excellent tortillas homemade and dinners are out of this world and fress there--pricey though.

The "bat cave" (Bronson Cave) isn't closed, nor is Griffith Park. The Griffith Park Observatory (which recently underwent a major renovation) is temporarily requiring advance (shuttle) reservations - you can't just arrive like you used to - so that is probably what you heard that confused you.

You'll find detailed directions to the cave at http://www.seeing-stars.com/Locations/BronsonCaves.shtml

Angel's Flight is a very short, very steep trolley/railroad that dates back to the 19th century, and took people up Bunker Hill. It's in downtown Los Angeles. (Warning: people have been killed in the past when the brakes failed and the trolley punged down the hill. They think they have it fixed now, but it's something to consider...)

The Disney Concert Hall is also in downtown (at 111 S. Grand Ave), next to the Music Center, and it is indeed a spectacular building to look at or photograph.

If you're into photography, don't miss the coast: Malibu, Palos Verdes and Laguna offer particularly great seascapes.

If you're into nature and gardens, don't miss The Huntington (near Pasadena), Descanso Gardens or the L.A. Arboretum.

Other sites that cry out to be photographed include both the Getty Villa (museum) in Malibu (which resembles an ancient Roman estate) and the new Getty Center (museum) atop a hill in West Los Angeles.

Kyle me to, I like to take cool L.A. photos, but the city is full of professional photographers so mine never seem to measure up..Griffith Park Observatory is open and requires you make reservations (See their web site to register on line). You can get a good pic of the sign and downtown from there if it's not too hazy..The Bat Cave is in the Park part, which is different from the Observatory..The cool Disney Concert Hall is in downtown, near the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Great Architecture..Angel Flight is in the heart of downtown not too far from City Hall an is an example of a funicular (one of many that have been in L.A.) It was really used to get people up and down hills to and from the little local street car lines...Good Luck..
