first question: Whats a good, and cheap vodka?

second question: We're having a BIG Halloween party and everyone loves jello shots, but we dont want everyone to get drunk too early and end up passing out, so whats a good preportion to make pretty weak jello shots? (i would like everyone to be able to have at least 7 jello shots AND other acoholic drinks before theyre too buzzed)

The recipes above sound good, and the good vodka doesn't matter, since its nearly tasteless, once you mix it with jello, no one will know there's even booze in there. Save the money on something good and go cheap all the way, they still taste good.

Generally, the recipe for Jello shots is about 1 cup of liquor per 1 cup of water + a packet of Jello of course.

If you want to make it weaker without taking away the taste, you can simply add some Malibu Rum, they make an amazing new Pineapple flavored Malibu that would taste amazing in a Jello shot. Since Malibu has only about 17% alcohol in it, the shots should be a lot weaker.

If you don't care much about using good liquor, you can always just purchase massive quantities of decent priced vodka. Chances are, most people can't taste the difference between cheap/expensive vodka when it is in Jello. Just change the mixture to about 1 part liquor per 2 parts water used to make the Jello.

Hope that helps!

There is a passable cheap vodka at Trader Joe's called Vodka of the Gods that is a decent mixer but not at all Martini worthy - for a decent Martini you need a good Vodka. For low impact Jello shots use vermouth, wine or sparkling wine, they will be alcoholic just not as much (6% as opposed to the 40% of hard liquor). To save money on alcohol check your local CVS for sale liquor and BevMo or Food For Less - you can always have a BYOB if your friends like the "good stuff" that way you get better booze and don't pay as much. Remember to have the number of a taxi service taped by the phones or a couple of Designated Drivers to run the drunks safely home - parties are always better if no one gets a DUI or worse after.

Good, cheap vodka? There is no such thing. It's either good, or it's cheap.

Typically when making a jello shot, it's 1/2 vodka, 1/2 water. What you could do is 1/4 vodka and 3/4 water.
