There's this girl who spread a rumor that I like this guy, who nobody likes, he's not nerdy, but kind of like a b-lister, so anyway the girl said that i liked him just because I am planning a winter dance 4 our school with him, when i went to go confront her about it NICELY she replied with "i don't know you" "get out my face" etc... I don't want this to go any farther, i don't know her, but i want this to stop.... NOW .... I'm new and just becoming popular and ui don't need her to ruin my reputation, what should i do?

First of all, would this really be a bad thing?
Second, start a counter-rumor, that has the virtue of truth and observable evidence, namely that you and he are friends/pals/buddies/whatever.
