Some young people in my town are trying to organize a protest against the wars up at a nearby city's courthouse. I've written the leader letters. They have the right, but they have no clue what they're protesting! They're just doing it following the popular "indie" kids. She's been writing that we do not pay any attention to Geneva Convention, it's only a war of aggression. I have told her she's organizing a bunch of lemmings. They're only following the others. Is there anything I can do? I'm not in the area (active duty), but I hear all about it. It really upsets me that they don't know the first thing about what's going on. I know this for a fact. All I want to do is influence people to think for themselves and form their own opinions.

Good point, but I don't want them to end up at my conclusion. I know for a fact that the majority have not even looked into it. I know a lot of the people, talked to them about it. They are protesting just to protest. I should go out there and hold a sign that says "i'm with stupid"

Get them to agree to protest outside the nearest Marine base on a Friday evening, an all-nighter. The drunken Marines returning to base will take care of the problem.

Ask the lead protest person (organizer) to invite the following people to speak on behalf of the observed Geneva Convention:
Eugene Armstrong
Nick Berg
Paul Marshall Johnson, Jr.
Kim Sun-il
Jack Hensley
Kenneth Bigley
Shosei Koda
Margaret Hassan
Seif Adnan Kanaan
Sorry I don't have their addresses. Perhaps the organizer could Google them.

Organize a counter protest?
Offer to come and speak to the class/group when you are on leave? Speak to a recruiter in the area who can do so/other veterans?
Write letters to the editor.
I feel your pain - to many people only follow what the media says and do not think for themselves at all.

It's funny you should mention holding a sign with them, I did that once. In my hometown they had people holding signs to promote peace so I stood with them holding a sign that said: I guess its easier to hold a sign than go and do something about it, i had arrows pointing all around towards everyone elses sign lol. I think its hard for people to be informed on certain things when their being told a bunch of different things. As much as I miss my husband I know he's doing a good thing and I couldn't be more proud of him. Thank you for your service.

You can't influence people like that, one thing is that their agenda is much larger than just the war. Realize that they gain little by doing it, and bring negative attention to their cause.

Don't worry about it, there are service members in foreign countries giving their lives so that people like the ones you talk about can do what they do.

It sounds like you want people to think for themselves as long as they reach your conclusions. If you're honest, you'll acknowledge that many of those in favor of the war are "only following" as well.
