My son has ended up with this after having his appendix removed because they ruptured. he is seriously ill and I feel I'm not being told everything. Can anyone give me any info mation about this...good or bad. Thanks.

your son has what is medically referred to as a paralytic illeus, it means basically that his intestines have stopped functioning, essentially gone to sleep. Many things can cause this, among these are infection, medications, anesthesia and on and on. He is very seriously ill, but you need to be confident in the doctors for his sake, because he will pick it up if you are not. A ruptured appendix spreads infection throughout the abdomen, and causes a condition called peritonitis, it can be fatal if the infection is not controlled with antibiotics and supportive care. I am sure the doctors are doing everything humanly possible to make your son well.

Frozen Bowel

my husband is currently in hospital, they have taken him back to theatre 3 times after his initial op. He now has frozen bowel. How long does something like this take to ease up, and does anyone know of a doctor/speciaslist surgeon that would be able to provide some answers

i just went thru the same thing and the best thing for your son would be broth soups and nothing solid his stomach is paralyzed i was in the hospital for 8 days before my stomach started to "unfreeze"
