okay then........ you know those little stickers ppl have on thier cars saying Army or Marines. and so i was saying to my dad who is a Marine and I give him so much respect for what he did...but i said that i wanted to get one of those for my car saying Marines..naturally. but then my close guy friend is in the Army. so i said I wanted to put a thing for the Army on my car too. My dad laughed and said that I would offened both of the braches.

What the heck!! so does anyone know why this is? is it like an ego thing? I respect both branches so im not gonna but both on my car but I will put support our troops instead....but i wanna know why that is!!

thanks and I fully and respectfully support the troops!!

Yes mam it is an ego thing alright. But this is how I look at it; if you have friends and relatives in some branches, there is not anything wrong with doing what you was going to do. Join the Marines or Army and you will find out what it feels like to most service members.

BTW, The United States Coast Guard is the country's oldest seagoing military service, predating the Navy. So I suspect the CG would be older than the Marine Corps.

As ex-army I would not find it offensive at all, at least you are showing support. I never felt threatened by Marines I trained with, we always had respect for each other. Of coarse you will have a few knuckle heads who have egos, but you put that aside when you putting your lives on the line.

Who cares what other people think, do what you feel is right.

There has always been inter-service rivalry. Truth is they are all the best at what they do.

I was Army and Air Force, I have Marine friends. They may be Marines, but they are MY marines. Brothers and Sisters in Arms

Neither one would be offended. They would both be pleased.
Go ahead and do it.

The branches have had a long history of being competitive when it comes to public representation some of it is machoism and some of it is about intelligence. I'd advise staying neutral or siding with your dad only because he is blood also always go with the one that has served active duty over the one that has not seen action both should understand.

It's called intra-service rivalry. It's basically just a running "joke" that goes on whereby a service member finds any and all opportunities to point out the shortcomings of the other branches.

not a clue but in general there is nothing more than friendly rivalry IMO.

I am a navy wife but my son is in the Air Force, so I have navy stickers on the car for base entry but a air force sticker from my son in the back window.........confuses the heck out of them lol lol

There is an unspoken rule between the branches of military that makes it so they don't like each. If you're a Marine you automatically hate the army, if you're in the Army you hate the Marines. It's a pride thing.
