i am recently undergoing alot stress. my job sucks, i miscarried twice in three years, i found i have hpv and premature cancer, and this just in, i might have gotten raped as a child. i've been having aweful dreams, my body aches, i'm constantly having to go to my doctor because of something- an infection or blacking out and i have been getting flashbacks of being molested by family friends. i've let myself go, i've balloned up to 268 pounds, i'm down to 249 which took much effort. i'm happily married and yet feel i'm holding my husband down. and recently i've been crying ALOT! i have been crying for 4 days now and can't get these terrible thoughts out of my head. and it's so hard because i try to follow what everyone tells me about forget about the past but it's not that easy. i feel i may be depressed, are these signs. oh and i'm usually a good eater but today all i've had is a protien bar and cup of coffee. i left work early because i was getting to emotional.

You clearly have signs of depression. Depression can be an onset of one or numerous events in ones life. There are also many numerous degrees of depression that bring on different degrees of emotions from deep sadness to raging anger.

Does depression really hurt? Yes.

Depression and emotional stress can cause an increased heart rate, tense muscles, inadequate nutrition, lack of sleep, lead to substance abuse, and so much more; overall hurting your physical health.

Not only can it hurt your physical health but it could also hurt your relationship with others with symptoms such as emotional mood swings, lashing out, poor judgment, negative attitude, etc.

Most importantly if you feel that you can't control your depression you should seek help and perhaps by posting this question can you be educated in other people's opinions, which may be your first step but know that there will be many steps to recovery.

The bible teaches us to cast our cares on God.

Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

No, I've had Major Depression for decades and I never noticed any aches or pains that weren't warranted by exercise or colds, etc.

you know the answer to you question, you are experiencing it.
depression does indeed hurt, you, emotionally and physically, and your family or anyone around you because of your behaviors. Get yourself to a psychiatrist for the best course of treatment for you.
