A cult is group of people, often living in a colony, with a very strong leader and very strong, extreme religious belief.

Jehovah is the strongest and nothing is stronger. Jehovah Witnesses don't live in a colony, but we do hope one day to live on a Paradise earth with only the righteous. Jehovah is not extreme Jehovah is balanced and we do have laws we live by. Jesus did not come to put away the law he came to make the laws more workable. So I can see why people would think Jehovah Witnesses are a cult. I disagree because all the cults that you have heard about or hear about have been lead by a man. We do follow Jesus Christ but we also know that Jesus has a head that he follows, which is Jehovah God. The difference between regular earthly men and Jesus Christ is, Jesus is the Son of God, proven to be perfect without sin, righteous, the lamb, and most important our Savior. Earthly men only endorse evil and lust. We follow righteousness and truth. Regular men who get a colony of people together are cults because they are not Jesus Christ and they will never be Jesus Christ. They are lying to their followers and they are making them do things that are evil. Satan is behind earthly cults. So once again JEHOVAH WITNESSES are not a cult because cults are ran under the influence of Satan, to do wrong and take advantage of people who are weak minded. Jehovah Witnesses are a righteous people who are not perfect but do not practice sin either.

A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.

My definition is pretty much the same as that of the American Heritage dictionary
cult: A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
The followers of such a religion or sect.

The term cult has lost all meaning in public discourse. It has degenerated into a term of abuse.

If you do not like a religion, it is a cult.

Try this one on for size. Christendom..... plain and simple. Satan's little joke that has the majority of people blinded to the truth. This won't last much longer though.

...any "religion" that lifts itself up above the Word of God and skews and changes Gods Word to extol "their" agendas... A cult requires many forms of "religious" gymnastics... they use icons, trinkets, special "things", special "books" and special people to keep their followers in "religious" bondage. Cults require an obedience to a "religious" hierarchy that Gods Words strictly forbids... they use "other" people to intercede for you to get to God... Some require that you do special "works" or say special "prayers" or pay special "fees" to receive a blessing from God... Always remember... "He" is the Way the Truth and the Life...No one comes to the Father but by Him... no one ! you can't pray to Saint "Suzie" or Saint "Rufus" or Saint "anyone" to intercede for you to God... The cults will always expose themselves with their cleaver attempts to "twist" Gods Word to make "their religion" look good... Like "those" who come to your door with "special magazines" and extra biblical revelations... Always test the Spirit... Beware of those who give you "trinkets" to pray with and requior your to talk with "special" people to be blessed of God.... Cults... Read the Book of John to get a better idea of who He is and what He's about...

if the group refers to themselves as a family unit, and that members should denounce thier biological families, AND when food and sleep deprivation are involved. those are both pretty good indicators.
