of cults. Did Jesus not warn us to be careful
of who we associate with, less we be dragged down along with them.
Should we be friends with those types of people, would it not be better to avoid them but still pray that they will wake up some day
to the truth.

We are not Jesus, and might find it harder to resist temptation. Some Cults have been brain washed, and will convert you to their cult given have a chance. That is why all of us must be very careful,
and not give them the chance or we will end up in hell as well.

Christianity may be a huge religion now and have many different sects, forms, etc! But originally it was a Cult!
My daughter is a JW she is, since my Mothers death, the only one in the family, only one of my sisters and a niece are 'church-going' Christians. They are Evangelical What do you suggest they do? Ignore their own families?
As they all Believe that to be a Good Christian you should 'spread the Word' they can't do it if they dont converse with others.
I am anti-religion and an Agnostic but I still love them and accept them and as Christians they love and accept me. Isn't that what any decent person does, whether Christian or not?
Their faith is obviously strong enough as they dont change their behaviour to 'fit in' with those they do associate with!
If you really believe then neither will you!

and what exactly is the truth then ? if you associate with those who do evil then you are more likely to do be part of that but if you associate with those who do good than you are more likely to do good, no belief has ultimate claim on the truth and anyone can do good and evil even those who claim to know the difference. what in your definition is a cult as to my understanding cult is short for culture so any group is a culture

Your right on this one. It is best just to keep a distance and pray for them. You do not want to be pulled into something that so against Christ.
And to Rudy Catholics are not cults.
Sounds like you weren't raised to know a true cult from a hole in the ground.
Suzie, you got alto of very rude and unknowable people who answered you and there is no excuse for it but to try and hurt other people and they haven't a clue as to what they are talking about. So, just pray for them and then let them go.

Do you realize when Jesus said that, that Christianity was a small cult- foll lowers of Jesus. Christianity was a small cult for a long time in the early AD's.
Do you mean denomination? Sect? Are you saying that you are part of a certain church and your friend or peer is encouraging you to join their church? If so that's a denomination not a cult.
Cults are usually secular, and are not in an established church but many denominations start off as "cults" until they become sects or denominations.

This is a weird question. Firstly, "conversing" isn't the same as friendship, it's just talking - where's the harm in that? Secondly, where are these "cult members" going to appear from? I wouldn't know a cult member if I fell over one. How do you start your conversations - "are you a cult member"?
I meet dozens of people every day and I woudn't have a clue about their religion, or care for that matter.

Jesus wasn't preaching to the Jews--they didn't want to hear him. He preached to the peasants and those that worshiped the pagan gods (i.e. cults.) They all were unbelievers. He did not run away from them, nor should a Christian shy away from a non-believer if he is secure in his faith. However, if you are easily swayed by other people and prone to temptation, then you should avoid associating with anyone that disagrees with your beliefs.

If you are a decent Christian ...(your words not mine)then surely you should talk to everyone you come across.
I believe in God and in Jesus but isn't the whole point about Love your neighbours etc......
You say better to avoid them.....how odd and how trite of you...do you think that you are better than others...thats a little vain.
If your Faith is strong then others cannot lead you off your path.
One of the reasons why I do not attend church anymore is because of the narrow mind set that people seem to have.
I pray for you and hope that some day your eyes will be open to God and His wonderful love that he has for all mankind.

Converse? By all means. Be 'friends' with? Absolutely not.
Jesus ministered to prostitutes, Paul was a disreputable tax man (for that matter, most of the disciples had big problems before Jesus took them under his wing).
I won't get into a religious discourse here, but like 'Noseygirl' said, Jesus set the example for us by associating with all kinds of sinners and people of ill-repute. How else do you share the gospel if you don't converse/associate with them.
Yes, you want to pray for them, but they MUST HEAR the Word to believe and convert: Jesus commanded His disciples to go out into the world and spread the gospel.

the added comments made me laugh. religion in general is brain washing, not just "cults"
and there is a very fine line between "cults" and religion.

Jesus said "we are IN the world but not OF the world." Jesus, often was in the company of "unsavory" persons of "ill repute". But He was the Saviour and even immune to Satan's tempations. Various groups, most notably, the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses, two groups often mis-judged or seen to be "cults" themselves DO PREACH and witness to the "people" in general, esp while on a "mission". They go in pairs and they go in daylight and they avoid "dens of inequity" such as "hellholes".
