Very interesting. I have attempted to write an answer to this question four times, and each time when I reach the end it disappears. That to me is a message that I should not be answering this question because of the negativity it will
accrue.

Because in the US it was originally gay men that carried the HIV virus. It's easy to blame someone for the beginning of a disease, take the guy with TB that went flying all over the world, but it is ridiculous to think that gay men started HIV. I've even heard someone caught it by have sex with a monkey, which is pretty funny if you think about it. I've seen a few videos with women and horses but they don't develop horsitis that only affects straight women.
The other problem is that the US is the only country where the gay population with HIV is larger than any straight population (and the straight infected population is growing faster than any of the gay populations. Check out the current statistics.) Every other country the straight population FAR excedes the gay population.
Is it a result of sin? Perhaps, but then without proving that sin really exists you have a hard sell on your hands.

Actually, many of your responders are correct in SOME of their responses, however AIDS is a unique "plague". It is the only federally protected "disease" out there. (WHY?)
It's "origins" can be traced...but only limited amounts of information can be found. (WHY?) I do not think that this is a "plague" that has been initiated by God, (Whomever you consider that Being to be) even though I know that He "allows" things like this to occur, for whatever His "reasons" are... Though I DO find it VERY interesting that it attacks what the "general public" considers (or at least used to consider) to be "undesirables" meaning, drug addicts, "low living criminals" promiscuous men & women & homosexuals (who also have a tendency to be "promiscuous") Strange to say the least....and this is just to "name" a few "groups" that this "plague" tends to target. The "acceptable loss" of the rest of humanity as a "whole" does not seem to affect the feelings that society has towards this "disease" itself. (Ever consider the possibility that this is a "man-made" form of "population control"? God forbid!)
But the possibilities are out there!

Well, I cannot remember the origins of AIDS, but it seems to effect deviants not just homosexuals. It has reached plague status because people cannot keep their pants on.
I do not recall a single monogomous couple contracting the virus. Aside from needle stick, exchange of fluids, and birth.
Do I believe it is a plague brought by God? It appears so, except that homosexuals have plauged mankind from early on as well as other deviants. I would say that by following God and his commandmants would erradicate the world of AIDS. It is entirely possible to rid the world of this disease if those that have it stop spreading it. Once they pass on the virus is gone.

AIDS is clearly a plague, which means a communicable epidemic disease that causes high mortality. It is primarily spread by anal intercourse because sodomy damages fragile tissues and spreads the HIV virus into the bloodstream.
The Center for Disease Control reports:
"The term men who have sex with men (MSM) refers to all men who have sex with other men, regardless of how they identify themselves (gay, bisexual, or heterosexual). In the United States, HIV and AIDS have had a tremendous impact on MSM. Consider these facts:
* AIDS has been diagnosed for more than half a million MSM. Over 300,000 MSM with AIDS have died since the beginning of the epidemic.
*
* MSM made up more than two thirds (68%) of all men living with HIV in 2005, even though only about 5% to 7% of men in the United States reported having sex with other men. In a 2005 study of 5 large US cities, 46% of African American MSM were HIV-postitive.

People don’t like accepting the fact that they maybe helpless to prevent something and therefore need a scapegoat. This was further fuelled by the media which sensationalised reports that AIDS spread much more rapidly amongst homosexual males due to the fact the nature of their sexual activity.

The God I serve doesn't work that way! And anyhow, most of the people who have AIDS are heterosexual. If it was a judgement handed down by God it would be against sexual immorality. The argument against that one, though is all of the innocent people who have gotten AIDS because their spouse had it and didn't tell them. There are too many children and other innocents who have it now. So, no, I don't see it like that at all.

AIDS is just another example of how bad things happen in the world for no reason.
If AIDS is a plague on gay people, then by the same logic, is sickle-cell anemia a plague on all black people? Are birth defects a plague on people who have heterosexual intercourse? Are tornados a plague on the churches that they sometimes destroy?
People who are inclined to hate gay people will not use logic. Their "blind faith" extends to condemning everybody whom their church tells them it's ok to hate.

MM.......Most researchers believe that HIV originated in sub-Saharan Africa during the twentieth century; it is now a pandemic, with an estimated 38.6 million people now living with the disease worldwide.
The three main transmission routes of HIV are sexual contact, exposure to infected body fluids or tissues, and from mother to fetus or child during perinatal period. It is possible to find HIV in the saliva, tears, and urine of infected individuals, but there are no recorded cases of infection by these secretions, and the risk of infection is negligible.

No, I don't consider it a plague on the gays. I think there are far worst areas that God would chose to put a plague on.
