I belive the solutions are alreayd happening on both sides. The liberals tend to bring the awareness and protest it and put it in your face. The democrats tend to do whats right for the earth but not necessarily our economy(taxes on carbon). Then the republicans tend to follow the money and shift the marketplace.
As I see it, the more people begin using their buying power, by buying "green" products the more the market will shift to a green market. Then the corporations will follow the money and create products for that market. You can count on capitalism to thrive when people are buying stuff. So unless you think that Americans (or people in general) will stop buying things and go back to living off of the earth(not a shot in hell), then if you want to see change, use your buying power and make environmentaly conscious purchases.
Examples:
1: quit buying bottled water and get a water filter instead
2: buy CFL's or LED lights
3: invest in a few solar panels for your home
4: make your next car an efficient one (or hybrid)
5: buy and use tankless water heaters insted of tanks
etc...

The solutions SHOULD come from both liberals and conservatives.
Unfortunately, so far the sole contriution from conservatives is that , until the last year or so, they pretended that global warming was some kind of liberal conspiracy (some of them still are).
What conservatives--real ones, not the right-wing nuts--have to contribute is a balance. We need BOTH solutions aimed at encouraging the private sector to innovate and find solutions that are efficient and help the economy, rather than incur net costs. That's the kind of thing that conservative policy approaches can do--and do well--and that is a CRITICAL complement to public policy and government initiatives (the liberals' strong point).
We need bipartisan efforts--and as a liberal, I sincerely wish the conservatives would dump the ideological claptrap and start helping solve the problems--their perspective is badly needed.

no.. i dont think so.. im a right wing person.. and the solution is not in gov. it is in the free market. liberals will always turn to gov.
noone can point out 1 think the gov has ever done to fix any problem. while the private sector always comes up with a solution. global warming is a good case in point.. lets say global warming is happening.. and it is 100% man made... what are the left wing wackos doing about it? well we all know what the demand..kyoto High taxes limit freedom.. that is the left wing answer.. what does the free market offer.. a real fix.. one of which is listed below... the left will find a way to discount this fix. which I would point out is just one of many the free market offers.. the gov. only slows things like this down.. with high taxes, and the demands they make on people..
look at anything the gov has ever put its hands on.. poverty.. welfair .. public education.. all suck and all have the finger prints of the gov on them.. the solution will not come from algore or the gov. it will come from a private owned business.. only a fool would say lets do something like a carbon credit.. which does nothing but hard the poor while allowing the rich to keep up doing whatever they want..
in real life.. the left does nothing but cry about problems while the people on the right fix them as long as they are allowed to make money doing it.. the dnc has done nothing for anyone in a long long time.. they are without any plans.. they just scream about whatever cause they think will make them look good

These and other solutions are good ideas for conserving energy and reducing pollution, but will do nothing about the climate since that is out of our control.
To think that us tiny creatures on this enormous planet have any affect on the climate is the height of arrogance.
We can't even change the direction of a storm or successfully predict the weather more than 3 days in advance. The climate models are just computer projections and are constantly proven wrong.
When will we accept the fact that this planet is much more powerful than us and will be here long after we destroy ourselves with idiotic ideas like "man-made global warming"?
In the US our pollution levels are going down faster than any other country in the world, and I'm proud of that. Still we need to continue to reduce pollution, but believing in something as ridiculous as this global warming hoax is wasting money and effort that could be put towards helping others around the world fight poverty.
The socialist agenda behind this hoax will stop smaller developing nations from ever advancing. We need to quit wasting time on silly hoaxes and work on solutions that are real and truly beneficial to all on this planet.
I'm always amazed how many people have bought in this nonsense. I thought we were smarter than that.

Yes, at least I hope so, As a 'lefty', although I actually I have been surveyed as a centrist, I would be pleased to see the likes of Zak Goldsmith make progress in thier own way, although It's very different to mine. There is no reason why environmentalists should be some homogenous, middle way gloop.
I suspect the 'leftist' emphasis is either a device used by the sceptics to fool themselves into believing they can be effective, or a symptom of conspiracy theories.

Why are people so deluded that us "the human race"can control the planet temperature. One huge earthquake could end life on this planet. The planet has been warming and cooling since the demise of the dinosaurs .The "successive governments" have been earning huge tax revenue since Maggie Thatcher first started the co2 bandwagon as a reason to close the coal industry, and it just runs and runs

No offense, but it probably won't come until we stop labeling each other as such and start calling ourselves citizens. The middle way is to stop looking for political agendas and start looking for common sense. Energy conservation saves money and gets us off foreign oil. Good place to start.

Its just not a political matter-its all about engineering good systems and replacing old bad systems. Maybe the same thing should be done with politics. Not everything can be made better by political action and most things are made worse.

The solution to global warming will come from changes in our purchasing habits that directly affect toxins in our environment. Until people stop buying stuff that makes them sick and pollutes the environment, our environmental situation cannot improve.
Chemicals in products we buy every day such as toothpastes, soaps, lotions, shaving creams, shampoos, dish and laundry detergents, end up down our drains and right into our environment. Not only that, these petro-chemicals are proven to cause all kinds of health problems such as birth defects, cancer, diabetes and respiratory diseases such as asthma and lung diseases.
But people keep using them, while complaining we live in a toxic world.
The toxins in our environment cannot be removed until consumers stop using common products that pollute, and make them sick, too!
So my guess, it has to start with consumer education.
