Why do people buy dogs from pet stores? Doesnt common sense tell you a MALL is not the place to buy a 10-20 year commitement . How about choosing a dog breed? Is the ability to think for oneself a rarity , must we all follow celebrities? I am not saying all people are like this but why do the majority of people seem to lack common sense with the regaurd to dogs ? Please give me some insight on this matter.

To any one that wants to "rescue" a puppy from a petstore ,dont you realize that they will just buy another dog? You have given them MONEY to purchase another dog, they are not going to stop because theyve sold out, they going to buy more. You cant rescue all dogs, the only way to stop puppy mills is to boycott them. Because you "rescued" a pup from a petstore, one more puppy mill recieves money and breeds your pups parents to death. Is it fair to your puppy that you "rescued" that his mom and dad will have to be bred to death becasue you couldnt resist buying him?

Spoiled me me me me me generation that has no sense of responsibility for their actions and never learned to think on their own.

Its a result of overly permissive parenting.. the hippies of the 60's and 70's have grown kids who never heard anything other than how wonderful they are... and now THEY have teenagers...

Edit: These are the same people who don't have any sense of discipline or structure (because their parents didn't teach it to them) and so they instill none of it in their children ... or their dogs.

A lot of "uneducated" people are deceived by the cutie look of these puppies and they want to bring the pup home. A lot of people still don't know pet stores puppies are from the mills. My neighborhood just opened up a pet store. That store advertises their puppies are from local breeders (aka byb or puppy mills). There're a lot of people go there and buy puppies. It's sad.
Regarding dog breeds, most people don't think about whether that breed fits their personalities or life styles. Thus, that creates a lot of problems dealing with the dog. Some people on the post complain about their dog. Instead, they should think about themseleves. Maybe they're not meant to have pets if they cannot handle them.

Common Sense you say - has everyone forgotten it died a long slow nasty death many years ago. People just aren't educated or don't care. If the pet stores had no puppies to sell there wouldn't be puppy mills - what a concept. People should study all the pros and cons before getting a pet to make a decision, but that is probably asking to much because that only takes time and if it doesn't work out - oh well just take them to the local pound. YUK I am getting so intolerant of all the selfishness.

Even the dogs at the pet stores in the mall need a good home.
As far as everyone wanting to be like celebrities, well, sadly it's a trend, and all those little girls that just HAD to have a dog will not want it soon, and then their parents, who should have said no in the first place will have to continue caring for the dog. Hopefully those parents can be responsible pet owners and maybe learn how to be responsible parents as well.
And, dog breeders are not always so easy to find. And, some people don't nesessarily want a specific breed of dog, but want a mixed!

I am totally against puppy mills. But I bought one of my puppies from a pet store as well. Not to follow some band wagon. I know that all the logos say don't buy from stores because they get their dogs from puppy mills, but shouldn't those puppies at the stores still have equal rights to a good home also? If we quite buying from stores what happens to all those puppies and the ones in the mills currently waiting their turn to go to a store??

Some people view dogs as fashion accessories. If someone famous has a certain breed then their fans will follow, it is how our society works. As for mall pet stores, most of those are impulse buys (think, how much is that doggy in the window). Unfortunately there isn't enough information given out to these consumers to let them know what is going on behind the scenes.

No pet stores in the area I live in sell puppies at all, and most of them have information for adopting from the pound in a prominent place. Apparently at least around where I live it's not even an option to do what you're venting against.

The established value of respect for oneanother is out the door alongside with being polite courteous and stay the golden rule. perchance that is the mummy and dad fault for neglecting their duty to instill this or that is the colleges or then in basic terms the subculture we stay in provided that we've such an excellent style of differant cultures and classes immigrating or illegally coming to the states those will be the reason behind the sown fall of our civil society

people don't think of the 10-20 year commitment. it's the cute puppy in the window syndrome and no impulse control. i'm not even sure most of them are thinking beyond that day or at the most that week. some people will give you an excuse - i couldn't find one anywhere else that i wanted, those dogs need rescuing too, etc. etc.

Guess I take a different view of things. I see the puppy as needing an attentive loving home and dang where it came from. Common sense doesn't exist in our society any more but I prefer to reserve the lack of common sense for parents who can't seem to parent and for kids who can't seem to comprehend that drugs WILL kill them.
