Some guy at my work called me and a few other's "non-believers." (Even though it turns out that both the other two people were in fact deists)

But Christians seem to not only call atheists non-believers, but all alternate religions as such, why? Is that NOT condescending?

You're darn right it is! They use that term like a baseball bat! They mean it as an insult. And "non-believers" IS a derogatory remark. I prefer the term "non-religious" myself.

I could not agree with you more. I don,t think that Christians have any right whatsoever, to make such a claim.

If you lumped every religion on this earth together and simply called the faith In God people?, there would be "Nothing to argue about??. Sadly, that would never work as you pointed out, In Religion, every one of them think Its the Real Deal????, Very Sad.

I think that when Christians call atheists and alternate religions "non-believers", they mean that the atheists and alternate religions do not believe in the Christian faith. I don't think that the term "non-believers" is always condescending, but some Christians might use the term "non-believers" in a condescending way. Some Christians think that their religious beliefs are the only "right" belief, and, in their opinion, think that "non-believers" do not have the right beliefs.
(I don't think that there is only one "right" belief.)

All other religions are false in their eyes. So not matter what a person believed they will always be a non-believer simple because the don't follow the Christian god. It's a sense of thinking they are the people that could possibly have a handle on what is "true."

Calling a Jehovah's Witness, a Mormon, or a Oneness Pentecostal non-Christian is a no-brainer. The Westboro church is a little extra complicated. At suitable they're incredibly legalistic, yet considering that i do no longer know their Articles of religion, that's a no longer uncomplicated call. Christians are no longer acceptable, and that they are actual much less acceptable than maximum.

Would you rather we say, "UnChristian Believers"?

As for being condescending, which is to "assume an air of superiority," that is simply not true. Christians are not superior to non-Christians, just "different" When I talk to someone who is non-Christian, I do not "look down" on them just because they do not believe in Jesus. We are also constantly urged by the Word, to humble ourselves lest we be humbled!

Now... if non-believers perceive Christians to be condescending, well... all I can say is that we cannot control what you think, just as you do not want us to control what you think.

Have a blessed day.

They're not believers in their own faith, making them non-believers to them. However, that does NOT mean that others are not believers in anything. I find this upsetting as well. I'm an atheist, however, I still believe in things, such as human will, love, etc. Making me a believer in some things, just not in a god. Hope this helps.

Some people are just idiots like that. Or they are just plain ignorant, suggesting that if you don't believe what they believe then you are totally wrong and a non believer of the right thing.

I do find it annoying when they do that. I mean, as an atheist, sure call me that all you want, I don't care. But calling people of other religions that is just plain rude.

Christians follow the Bible, and the Bible says there is only one way to heaven, i.e., through belief on Jesus Christ.
Deists may believe in A god, do not necessarily believe in Jesus, and Atheists most certainly don't. Therefore, all are non-believers by the teachings of the Bible.

I'm sorry if it seems that way.

However, it's really hard to name all the different religions. HOW many religions are there in the world again? It's just a lot easier to group them all together as non-Christians or non-believers.

I try not to do it...but I still do sometimes.

Pure delusion of grandeur!!!!! Those people are so full of themselves that think they have the right to pass judgment on others, they are plain bullies like any other. The only judge is the One True God, Our Heavenly Father, don't worry about anyone else judgment.
