I have heard a couple of people saying there is, but I can't find any corresponding information about it on any of the Navy's websites. So, for anyone who is in the Navy, is there a banquet or something of the sort for the graduation from basic training? Thanks.

There used to be. It wasn't a reception like we think of as a catered affair or anything. But, on the night before pass and review, there was a family night. The sailors marched in, were told to relax and then we all got to spend a couple of hours chatting with them.

They did have some chips and drinks out, but that was about it. It really was an amazing time, though. I loved seeing my hubby that first night!

They canceled the family night after 9/11, though. We heard about it in the Navy Times when it happened and were saddened by it. But, you do still get time together after pass and review if your sailor isn't departing for A school early.

Hope this helps!

A Banquet? A Reception? Holy smokes!are you miss-informed! After graduation, the new recruits are given Base Liberty and allowed to go see the People who came to the Graduation and mingle etc.
Since San Diego has been closed, you must be talking about Great Lakes Naval Training center.
After Graduation, the new Sailors recieve their orders for "A" School, are paid up to date and issued travel vouchers if needed.
Even the Farmy Army and Air Force have yet to start throwing Banquets.
I will throw this out, there is a PIO (public information officer) on the Base web site who can answer any and all questions.A phone number may be listed as well...........

no. the day of Pass In Review you may have some time with him afterwards, but not beforehand. he may or may not be allwoed to leave base, or he could be a Grad N Go, whichmeans within 2 hours of graduating he will be on a bus/plane to his A school. Or he could get the rest of the weekend free to hang out and go up to 50 miles off base Saturday and Sunday, having to be back for curfew (usually 8 or 9 pm).
