Funny enough some of the guys at the beginning mentioned that the 787 isn't in service yet so they can't evaluate it. Aaah are you guys forgetting that neither is the 747-8. I mean it's still nowhere compared to the 787, so I find ur answers a bit odd. I can only assume that you were thinking of the current generation of 747's.

Anyway it has got to be Boeing all the way. Yes the 787 was delayed a bit, but 1) as it stands its first flight is delayed untill mid Nov or Dec, however with an icrease of testing it's entry of service should not be affected (May 2008) and 2) lets not forget the massive delays of the A380. Delays of this sort are normal though. Building a brand new airliner especially one of that size is not easy. However the severity of the delays has cost Airbus dearly with the Freighter version being cancelled.

The 787 was already the most ordered aircraft before it was even built and I can assure you Airbus will have a very tough time competing against it!

If it aint Boeing aint going...

For what? The A380 is better than the B747-8 or B777 for busy routes, like the majority of the worlds long haul flights. The B787 will be competing with the A350 in a few years time, when Boeing can sort out their problems which have delayed it 6 months.

The 787 realluy competes against the 777, 767 and A310 rather than the A380/747-8. It's for the expanding routes that are currently served by other twins rather than for the LHR-SFO, ORD-CDG type of routes that have already run out of departure slots and run full 747s all the time. The only answer for JFK-LHR is bigger aircraft, or less demand.

I'd always prefer a quad over a twin because I'm an engineer and I don't trust the assertions that the twin failures we have had are the only twin failures we will have, losing both engines 200 minutes away from land isn't going to be good news.

Definitely Airbus and the A380. I generally find Airbuses to be quieter and more comfortable than Boeings. The A380 might be late but it rocks, you should watch the A380 delivery, the Singapore Airlines CEO couldn't stop raving about the aircraft(he actually called the 747-8 a revamped 1960's technology and said the A380 was the new queen of the skies), the passengers and the pilot who've flown it have given it rave reviews on handling, comfort and quietness of the plane, so i think Airbus definitely did something right with the plane.

My instructor said, if it ain't a Boeing, I ain't going. I fly the 747-400 now, but I'd like to see my airline purchase some 787. Seems like we can add a different fleet to our team now, with the 340-300, 747-400, A330-300, B737-800.

Boeing. If I go down in one, Boeing and the shareholders get burned. They earn their money by merit and performance.

If I go down in an Airbus, some poor European farmer just gets to cough up more tax money. Airbus earns it's money by taxes and government coercive force.

I'll take the 787 when it's available, thank you, with a big red bow on it. Should please the wife. Call first so I can clear out my driveway for it.

I prefer whichever one I am flying... but since I am flying Canadair right now, I would choose Boeing... Comparing the two airplanes you offered strictly by looks, as I beileve you intended, I would choose the 747-8i... however, If you compare the flight deck and the technology onboard, there is no comparison... 787 all the way...

This cannot be answered. Neither the 747-8 (although a derivative of an existing aircraft), nor The 787 are in service yet.

I will chose any Boeing aircraft powered by a Pratt and Whitney engine over any Airbus. If I have to chose one a/c in particulsr it would have to bwe the 777.
