According to Christianity, are good deeds important or is it just enough to have faith?

I'm just wondering because I hear more about the importance of good deeds in other religions while I hear more about faith in Christianity.

If you have faith in Jesus but go out and break every commandment, then your faith is worthless.

Sorry but you won't get to heaven and you wont be able to strum a harp to Jesus that way.

That a debate even in Christianity itself....but I have simplified it.

Through TRUE faith, good deeds flow naturally. Good deeds are not the importance but the side-effects of what is...faith.

Faith & Faith Alone in Jesus Christ is the "Ticket" to Heaven. Think about it...what "Works" could Anyone in a state of Sin, do to Surpass the Perfect Work of Christ Bearing Our Sins on the Cross and providing Eternal Life for All who Accept Him??? Scripture says our "Works are as wood, hay & stubble, that when tested with Fire are Consumed" I Cor. 3:12 & 13 or Isiah 64:6 which says "Your 'Works' are as 'Filthy Rags' (Menstrual Rags)." After Salvation, the Holy Spirit will lead U, through Ur "Spiritual Gifts", to do what "Works" He has for U. This is NOT Anyone Else (Church / Pastor / Priest) having U "Jump through their 'Hoops'"!!! John

In James it says that faith without works is dead so you need to have faith and do the good deeds as well.

Paul says that both things are important, for what is the law without faith, and what is faith without the law?

Meaning, saying,"hey, I'm saved!" and then ding whatever is not enough. You have to live the word of god if you want to truly follow Christ. He wants us to follow his teachings.

FAITH.

"because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight . . . " (Rom. 3:20)

"for we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law," (Rom. 3:28)

"For what does the Scripture say? ‘And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness'" (Rom. 4:3)

"Therefore, having been justified by faith . . . " (Rom. 5:1)

Ephesians 2:8-10 "8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

Faith comes first, then good works.

Noah was justified by faith. Abraham was justified by faith. But if you read their histories, you'll see that their faith compelled them to do things that would make others think they were crazy. Faith isn't faith unless it causes you to do something.

They are equally as important.

James 2:18
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:20
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Religions not based in scripture will tell you good deeds.
Religions based in the Bible will reiterate its teachings, that salvation is by grace through faith.
