That's nerve damage. Has the area of numbness changed at all in the last 30 days? If it has lessened or the tingling feeling has changed, that means the nerve is healing. Sometimes it can take months to heal, sometimes sooner, sometimes not at all. Call your dentist or oral surgeon and tell them your concerns.

What did you have done? If it was a fully impacted wisdom tooth, you can sometimes expect that the nerve was damaged during the procedure. It could have also been torn during the extraction. This is a standard part of the consent form. The main thing is if it is coming back somewhat. The last places to get sensation back would be your lips and then the chin area. It can take 6 months or longer to come back. If no improvement, then you might start getting a little worried and need a reeval from the oral surgeon. If you had a jaw fracture, or pathology this might be expected and can take up to a year to come back. Once again, if you are getting some sensation back, that is a good sign.

when you have a wisdom tooth surgically removed, there's a 5% chance of temporary numbness to the lip, teeth, gums and skin of the chin on the affected side. Permanent numbness occures in about 0.5% of cases. Nerves heal at a rate of roughly 1mm a day. If the parasthesia is due to mild surgical trauma from the extraction, then normal sensation should return within a few weeks. Unfortunately if the nerve has been severed, then there isn't much scope for treatment or any sort of regeneration.

Do you mean 30 days after having oral surgery? That is definetely abnormal and you should be seen by the dentist or oral surgeon right away.

Wow, you had oral surgery for 30 days?
No wonder you are numb....

(Ok, the real answer - call your dentist - you should have recovered fully by now)

THE REASON YOU CANNOT FEEL YOUR LIP IS BECAUSE SOME DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE INFERIOR ALVEOLAR NERVE. THIS MAY GET BETTER WITH TIME OR IT MAY NOT. THERE IS NOTHING TO DO FOR IT. TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AN ORAL SURGEON TRAINED EXCLUSIVELY IN EXTRACTIONS AND HOW TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE NERVE SHOULD DO THE EXTRACTIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS DAMAGE IS SOMETIMES UNAVOIDABLE.

Acupuncture, which involves inserting thin needles into various points on your body, may reduce peripheral neuropathy symptoms.

Sounds like they blocked a nerve. They'll probably tell you it will go away in 6months to a year.
