Is it proper to inform my co-workers that I'm leaving or is it not neccessary?

You should give 2 weeks, if you are leaving on good terms, you want it to stay that way.

I actually have a situation right now that is an example of this. I was recently hired for a position and now they are asking for verification thta i can actually do the things i say i can do. I have to write previous employers and ask for a letter from them stating so. I have one employer which i want to use, but i walked out on them w/out any notice and i feel stupid calling.

When it comes to your job history, try not to burn your bridges.

Letter of resignation just states your name, your title , stating that you are resigning from your current position . That should be it really, that was all i had to do for my letter.

You should give 2 weeks. Make it short and simple. Address it to your supervisor, and just state, "This letter serves as notice of my resignation effective November 1, 2007. I have enjoyed working for ABC Company and I appreciate the opportunity I have been afforded here. Sincerely, Me."

It is not necessary to inform your co-workers, although if you are friends they might wonder why you didn't say anything.

You really should give at least a 2 week notice to your boss. That way they can find someone to replace you and you will get a good reference. No less than a one weeks notice. Some places want you to start immediately but that's not possible sometimes. Especially if you've been with that company a long time. I'm sure word will get around soon enough that you are leaving. It's not necessary to tell them. It's your boss you have to worry about.

ALWAYS give them 2 weeks. when you leave with a two week notice, you're doing 2 things: 1) you're giving the company time to find a replacement and 2) you're helping yourself out more because when you go to apply for another job, you want to be on good terms.

As for the letter of resignation, i would firstly thank them for giving you the job in the 1st place. Then tell them something like "i regret to inform you that i will be pursuing other employment opportunities and am formally putting in my two week notice." then maybe offer them assistance in finding a replacement for you. thank them again and then sign away :]

A lot of people are saying to give two weeks notice and generally I agree. However, in some cases you may not like your employer and may not want to give them 2 weeks notice. Here are generally things your former employer is legally able to answer :

* position
* dates of employment
* salary
* the circumstances under which you left the job

If you're worried about what a previous employer might say you can use a reference checking service which will find out for you.

u should give ur boss a 2 week notice ur coworkers dont matter if u like them let them kno if not f*ck em lol not to sound dumb but im not sure what a letter of resignation is is it like letting them kno ur leaving? i wrote a letter to my previous boss just as written proof that i put it in and i just told him i was leaving in 2 weeks what the date of my last day would be and maybe that i found another job im not sure but yea 2 weeks is respectful

Only give as much notice as you can afford not to be paid for because there is a good chance that they'll just let you go when you give them notice. Do you have another job lined up already? Do you now have a low-paying high-turnover type job? I wouldn't tell any of your co-workers that you're leaving until it's time to go....

You should put in a two week notice.

All you need to put in the letter of resignation is:

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I am writing to inform you that my last day of work is **Month/Day/Year**.

Sincerely,

Your name

a verbal notice of 1 week is considered an acceptable notice unless company policies states/recommends other wise. It is none of your coworkers business as to your notice to quit.
