You don't have to make reference to his stud at all. Just keep asking him to repeat himself when you don't understand him. You don't have to say it's because of the stud.

getting your tongue pierced is interesting for the first week because, at least for me, i basically had to re-learn how to eat with it in my mouth, had to get used to talking with it in, etc. The worst day was the 4th one in, but after that no one had trouble understanding me. My speech was fine within a week. And as much as my mom hates my tongue piercing, she admits that my speech has actually improved since I got it. So just get over it, like everyone else said, it's not really your business or your place to criticize.

Just tell him "I am sorry but , i cannot understand you since you have put that stud in your tounge". It can also be from the swelling, if he had it done recently within the last 2 weeks , then he is probably experiencing swelling which can make you sound a little funny.

Just keep saying "I'm sorry I don't understand what you are saying".

Hopefully he'll get out of that fad. I had one for a year or two and got rid of it.

He's your neighbor, not your son. Its not your place to say anything. When you have to constantly ask him to repeat himself, perhaps it will sink in. Perhaps not, but there's nothing you should say about it.
