"We believe that God designed and created the world, and governs it through natural laws that can be discovered through reasoning, observation, and experience. We feel that God does not reveal himself to us through inspired or revealed texts or by supernatural means, but through creation itself." Excerpt from the Peace Dale Christian Deist Fellowship's web site.

Nice bit of rationalization.

Religions like to make absolute claims about how things are. The claim of "God did it", of course is the main one. There are whole mythologies of how various gods "did it", and the religions cling to the idea that they are really true, and not just myths.

Unfortunately, science has learned a lot about the universe, and it doesn't seem to rely on any god to get about what it does. So, religious people have had to, one by one, drop each of those mythologies because it has been too burdensome to keep up in the face of facts.

The last one they cling to is what is called, "The God of the Gaps". Basically, this is a catch-all for all that science has not managed to figure out yet. The "God did it" claim still fits there, because it can't, yet, be shown wrong. As science learns more and more about the universe, this "God of the Gaps" keeps getting pushed further and further back into the cracks of our ignorance.

This is reflected in this quote which basically says that while science has figured out this and that, somewhere in the background there could still be a god in there.

That's a thin straw they're clinging to.

I do not agree we can discover how God governs the world.
I believe God reveals himself to us through inspired/ revealed texts and by supernatural means.
I guess I will never be a member of the Peace Dale Christian Deist Fellowship.

Mostly agree. God will reveal himself through supernatural means and inspiration comes from anything and at anytime. There are many observations, occurences and experiences that cannot be explained or at least not fully understood and when the time is right, they will be.

It's someone attempting rational explainations for the workings of our universe while giving lip service to creationism.

If God has not "revealed" himself to people other than by his creations, how is this person or anyone for that matter certain of his existance?

The only answer to this would be to just have blind faith in something simply because someone says so.

On the one hand, he is partially correct...

Romans 1:19-20 “What may be known about God is manifest among them... For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made.”

And on the other, he is totally wrong...

2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching (and) for setting things straight.”

I think they believe what they want instead of believing what they should..it doesnt matter what they want to believe, what matters is the truth and what the God of Israel left for us(OT) so we can know how to live and what to do until He comes for us..u do that if u want to reign with Him.If not, then follow the NT..Shalom

If that was the case for the rest of Christianity...their nearness to the truth would have gone from "cold" to "warm" nearly instantaneously.

Partially

God listens to those who talk to God, but God is very vague.
