No there isn't. The modern slow cooker was developed by Rival Industries with the trademarked name Crock Pot.

I have and recommend the Rival. Have a look at the Hamilton Beach adn KitchenAid as well.

Slow cookers/crock pots are the same.

Get one with a removable insert so it's easier to clean. I have the old 1-piece kind and it's a pain to wash. Don't get a big one unless you're always going to cook large amounts. Small amounts of food in a big crock pot will burn.

No, crockpot was a brand name.
As the other answerer said, get one with the removable pot.
Start with a $20 dollar one like a Rival, then if you find yourself using it a lot and liking it, then you can trade up for a pricier brand.
Lots of people think they will use them lots, and then they don't!

They are the same thing. My main criteria is that they be big enough to hold a good size portion for my large family and that the liner be removeable so that it can go from the fridge to cooking to the dishwasher.

It's just trade names. Buy a cheap then and if you like it then get one with all the bells and whistles.
