I think you are asking what a 'reply' is like, rather than how to ask. Personally, when I started to seek Jesus in prayer as a teenager decades ago, nothing much happened at first, but I persisted. I suppose I gradually became aware that there really was someone on the other end of the line. This was first and foremost an inward realization. Nowadays, prayer is second nature and I am conscious of His immediate presence. Sometimes I am lost for words, but prayer is not only done audibly. Replies are sometimes a spontaneous thought, also inaudible and easy to miss.

Interaction implies that God is separate. God is not separate, there is no conversation like two people talking...God is in all things so is never separate from any of us. The references to a "personal relationship with God" are not quite right but are the closest language can get to the character of the situation. The communication is always both ways just as the communications between your brain and your fingers or toes or liver are two way, though we are not always consciously aware of them.

Tamara echoed my thoughts....God is not seperate from us He lives within and is all around us all of the time. I just talk to him as if he is my friend who is a good listener.
Its more of a feeling sometimes especially when you are deep in prayer and you feel that you have been filled with love and joy and happiness, its quite amazing. It is a two way conversation but you are the talker and God is listening and then sometimes you sort of know the answer to a problem that you have given to Him. Sometimes the solutions to problems comes a little later but if you have faith you know that eventually God will supply what you need.
You dont hear a booming voice but you do feel that there is someone listening to you which can be a great comfort.
Try talking to Him as if you are talking to your very loving FATHER, dont worry about what you have to say....just let it all out.....no need for ceremony...just keep it simple, God will reveal His truth to you little by little and you will feel His loving presence around you and within you.........Godbless.

I use to do a lot of stupid krap like be very mean to people and damage myself. But one day I don't know what happened but I chilled out. I started be nicer to folks especially my parents. I started to meditate and seek answers for the hardest question in the history of the universe, Is God here or not? I use to walk a lot also, just walk around think about ****. I can't really get into it further because it won't do anything for you. You have to live your life. BUT God is real, I know for a fact because I've experienced the weirdest stuff since the days of Moses. maybe not that magnificant but pretty awesome supernatural experiences. All I got to say is do not underestimate what I 've been through my friends, unless you been in my shoes. You just got to go low, thats where you start. Andd you got to build it back up to the top.

God generally speaks through the bible to people and we speak back with prayer. Occasionally you might meet and angel but it is very rare but it has happened then you might have a 2 way conversation.

God speaks in different ways but one thing is for sure when he interacts with you or is trying to speak with you you will know it. Sometimes its kinda like a inner feeling as well. no man has ever seen God

I pray and and read the Bible. When he speaks to me sometimes it's a still soft voice in my thoughts. But when I've done something really idiotic like trying to do something on my own without praying about it first, he gets louder telling me my mistake and how to rectify it. If I willfully ignore him and his direction, he punishes. See, I'm his child and he treats me as such. Letting me go so for then pulling me back from harm.

Whenever your concience tells you that something is wrong. That is God (Holy Spirit) speaking to you. Several verses cover this in the Bible, sorry i don't have a specific reference.
