Catholicism does not reject Scripture or the Holy Spirit guiding the Church through the ages (as promised in the Scriptures)

+ Salvation +

The Catholic Church teaches:

+ About Non-Catholic Christian Churches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

+ About Judaism:

"The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant. To the Jews "belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ"; "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.

+ About Islam:

The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day.

+ About other non-Christian religions:

All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city.

+ The Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 819 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.htm#819

+ Forgive Sins +

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ.

Jesus said, "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Luke 20:22-23)

Oral confessing of sins is recommended over and over in both the Old and New Testaments:
+ James 5:16
+ Acts 19:18
+ Matthew 3:5-6
+ Mark 1:5
+ 1 Timothy 6:12
+ 1 John 1:9
+ Numbers 5:6-7
+ Nehemiah 9:2
+ Sirach 4:26

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a priest ordained in the name of Jesus Christ not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

Remember all sacraments are encounters with God. This sacrament is a healing encounter between God and the penitent.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 1422 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt2.htm

+ Baptism +

Matthew 28:19: Jesus said, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit."

Mark 16:15-16:
He said to them, "Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 2:38
Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.

Holy Scripture tells us that Baptism is necessary for salvation for those who have heard the Gospel and have had the opportunity of asking for Baptism.

Therefore
+ Those who die for the sake of the faith without being Baptized are baptized by thier death for Christ. This is called Baptism of blood.
+ Those who die while preparing for Baptism are assured salvation. This is Baptism of desire.
+ Those who die never hearing of Christ but have sought the truth and does the will of God as they understand it can be saved. See Romans 2:13-16. This is also Baptism of desire.
+ Children who have died without Baptism are entrusted to the mercy of God.

+ With love in Christ.

HEY !!!! WATCH IT GNOSTIC !! The Bible came from the JEWS !
Without the Jews we would have no Bible. Remember,Jesus Is A Jew,not catholic.
Since Jesus Christ was the word and the word become flesh and dwealt among us,If they deny that then they deny Jesus and His word.
Jesus said I(Jesus) am the way,the truth and the life and no one comes unto the Father except by Me(Jesus).
That's pretty clear,don't you think.
The only way to God Is through the blood shed by Jesus Christ and what He did for ALL humanity.
God has said In His word that If anyone comes preaching any other gospel than this do not even wish them godspeed lest you partake of their sins.
If It don't come from the Bible I don't believe It....

All monotheist religions are good at believing in their holy book yet create rules that go contrary.
Prophet Jesus often Criticized the Jewish Holy leaders for being white Sepulchers; Fanatic Muslim leaders have twisted the Quran to fit their evil purposes and Christians within their numerous denominations have many versions of one Bible.
However, I don't think(other) Christians are in a position to Criticize the Catholic Church since the Bible they all read was translated by Catholic Monks who spent many lonely years putting it together. Without the Catholics, there wouldn't be a Bible.
History shows that the Catholics have made many grave mistakes through the centuries but today, they try hard to correct these mistakes; Church leaders have tried to bring all monotheist denominations together. Two Popes have opened their hearts to Islam and have shown great respect for the faith. None of us is perfect but trying says a lot.
I attended a Catholic High school and the nuns who taught me were darlings who loved me and respected my religion.
Don't forget that the denominations that Criticize Catholics today were never around when Brave Catholics gave every drop of their blood for a faith they believed in...it's the same faith we today call Christian.

hey, I see you quoting from the Bible.
Without the Catholic Church there would be NO Bible.

Those Catechism quotes must be very old. The Catholic Church today surely does not say that you could be only saved through the Church.
The Catholic Church have come a long way; they have reviewed and changed their religious negatives every year. They have apologized for many false deeds in the past and welcomes all faiths. I say that's very brave. The Catholic Church have made their mistakes and have admitted to them. Now tell me what church you belong to and the mistakes your church have made. Hurry!
And now you have Ibrahim..that Muslim Clown jumping all over Christianity; maybe Ibrahim should first rewrite his Quran which talks only about killing in the name of Allah before he meddles with Christianity.
ibrahim should know that the last Pope always respected Islam and spoke up for all Muslims when their prophet was dragged in the dirt...remember? Would a Muslim do this for a Catholic.
Before you fanatics criticize catholics, I dare you to look within and put your house in order first. Let him without sin throw the first stone.

If a Chrisian is walking in the Spirit, they are able to identify these false teachings.
The Spirit’s presence within us enables us to understand and interpret the Word. Jesus told His disciples “when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He reveals to our minds the whole counsel of God as it relates to worship, doctrine, and Christian living. He is the ultimate guide, going before, leading the way, removing obstructions, opening the understanding, and making all things plain and clear. He leads in the way we should go in all spiritual things. Without such a guide, we would be apt to fall into error.

Have a blessed day and keep walking in the Sprit.

Since my other Catholic brothers and sisters have answered you quite well, I'll only add that the bible you use to bash us with came FROM the Catholic Church. Just study the origins of it and you'll see I'm right.

Two: if the protestants have it right, which one? Baptist? Methodist? Lutheran? Anglican? Non-denominational? It's just funny to me how protestants constantly bash Catholic doctrine yet they can't agree on doctrine themselves, hence the multiple denominations, yet each claims to be right. How does that make any sense?

That's fanaticism. To catholic Fanatics The Catholic Church is the same as God. So from that point of view it does not challenge it (a point of view I don't share) Instead of relying on books, That gives us Catholics a bad light even though it was written by catholics, I suggest you talk to a priest or a nun. Now remember they are HUMAN so choose wisely since to some priests priesthood is just wearing cloths, choose a priest that you feel is a real preacher. Don't think bad of Catholics and diminish their believes as trash. It is that kind of thinking that has Christians everywhere under a bad light, and that is costing our credibility towards non believers.

The link was great.......have you watched loose change?

Also I went from your link to 'how to make fire using a can of coke and a chocolate bar' and 'how to make water burn'.....seriously. Just soak 2 X 'AA' batteries in a cup of water for 40 mins.....remove and set fire to the water with a lighter!

So do you think they came up with "He who is without Sin cast the first stone" because they knew 2000 years later we would point fingers at the bloody Romans for nailing him up in the first place?

Never liked religions much......bit "self indulgent" for me.
God loves us unconditionally....remember that especially if you are a fanatical Christian or Muslim.

As salaamu 'alaikym, my freind.

Insha'Allah, at least your not bashing Muslims!

Insha'Allah, in the history of the development of the Christian scriptures, one should realize that all Christian scriptures came from the Roman Catholic church when that same denomination or sect of Christianity canonized and codified the same at the Council of Nicene around 325 C.E. not long after the Emperor Constantine declared Christianity to be the
new state religion.

Yes, other Christain denominations or sects have further altered and corrupted the scriptures by editting them, altering the language, removing verses, books, etc., but the basic Christain scriptures is Catholic in origin and nature.

Insha'Allah, you might also want to actually read the latest Roman Catholic Catechism, the one that was promlugated and published after the Second Vatican Council as it clearly states that God and God alone will be and is the judge of who will enter into heaven and who will not.
Furhter, in the spirit of ecumenical brotherhood, those persons who may have never had the opportunity to have learned about the person of Jesus Christ, as he is thought of within Catholicism, yet who have lived a good and moral life are thought to be worthy of salavation and the rewards of heaven.

Christain scripture says that a combination of good works and faith are necessary for salavation. Jesus Christi is quoted as saying, "It is not those who call out "lord, lord" who will enter the kingdom of heaven but rather those who do the Will of the Father".

Again in Christain scripture, Jesus Christ tells the apostle Peter that he is "the rock upon which I will build my church. You will hold the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Those sin that you loose will be loosed in heaven and those sins that you hold fast will be held fast in heaven". Catholics, in following this scriptural passage, see the apostolic procession through the bishops and through their priest as having the sacramental ability to forgive sins.

Finally, you might find that you are confusing the person of Paul (i.e., Saul) and his teachings with those of Jesus Christ. Although Paul might be deemed important, it would seem that Jesus Christ, at least to Christians, might be more important.

Insha'Allah, if you want to ask a more important question, you might ask why Christians who supposedly all follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and the same Gospels are so and always have been so divided amongst themselves and why they hate one another so much?

Insha'Allah, you might also find yourself wondering why a Muslim, such as myself, is more familiar with Christain scriptures then you who are supposedly a Christian, although a very "judgmental" one? (By the way, I seem to recall a passage about not judging lest you yourself should be so judged.....There is also one about taking the log out of your own eye prior to trying to remove the splinter from the eye of your brother...)

May Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, guide you to the truth.

Ma'a salaam.

This has got to be the best question yet!!! Now most people don't know this but I would suggest people study the word of God. But the Catholic church changed the baptism formula in Jesus name to Father, son, Holy Ghost. Thus creating a trinity. This has been a strong debate among christian leaders throughout the centuries but I would lean more on the word of God than some church organization that changed it to fit their own personal beliefs. You will never find anyone in the scripture that was baptized in the Father,Son and Holy Ghost but you will find people being baptized in Jesus name (Acts 2:38). Do your research!!! Its amazing what the Catholic church has done to the true doctrine of the church.
