I went to the Dr's office today--turns out that I have bronchitis. While the nurse was checking my vital signs, she mentioned that she used to be my size, and is selling her clothes that are now too big for her on e-bay,and that I should check them out.I was appalled ,but did not show it,and graciously thanked her.

She's not trying to be helpful, she's trying to sell her stuff. Which seems unprofessional given she's being paid to take your vital signs.

I think this is pretty rude too, and if you have the opportunity of changing to a doctor who employs staff with a more professional attitude you should do so. You may only have bronchitis at the moment but if you get anything more serious (God forbid) you will frankly be demanding higher standards. If you can't or don't want to change, I would consider putting in a complaint to your doctor about this nurse's behaviour. Doctors, after all, want their practices to be successful and it is possible that this nurse may have alienated other patients.
Good luck anyway, and hope your bronchitis clears up soon.
Basically though, if you're happy with your doctor, try and sort out this issue with the nurse. It's your health and well-being that matter in the long-term.

Wow -- I can see why you are upset, that would also be my first reaction. I think she handled it wrong and was unprofessional. She is supposed to be helping you and maybe she thought she was, but I have a feeling that if it were me, over reacting or not, I would say something to her and the person in charge and let them know that it was offensive to me. I would not have thanked her, so you are nicer than I would have been. Get better, and next time, tell them you don't want that nurse. : )

I had a similar thing with a neighbour a few years ago. At first I was horrified but then realised that I was getting some really nice clothes for next to nothing, and if I'm honest, it made me realise that I was bigger than I had thought - I remember how she looked before she lost weight!! Don't be offended, people who were once big and lost weight seem to talk more openly about it. I'm sure she didn't mean to offend!

i would have looked at her like she was crazy, and said 'uuuuhhh, o---k'

or if i were in the right mood i'd have told her that was inappropriate...kinda like trying to sell her Avon or something, ya know? totally inappropriate in her workplace

yes, i do think she was rude...only if the 2 of you knew each other really well outside the nurse/patient relationship would this have been in any way ok, and then still not since she was at work and you were her patient

Both?

It was a bit rude, since you were there for reasons.

But, she was trying to be helpful by letting you know about them.

Did she give you her userid or something to identify her?

I would have brought it up to the doctor, she shouldn't be doing that on work time no matter what size anyone was.

I read you're question again and noticed it was the nurse and not the doctor (if there's a difference where you live) I'd say a little **green eyed** maybe - even with you're bronchitis -- is that possible? it's not the sort of thing women say to each other is it? unless really close...
You did well not to rise to it...
Hope you're feeling better : x )

i'm a efficient individual a minimum of 50 hours each and every week. the the remainder of the time I in simple terms attempt to help if i think like it i.e. on Y!A. otherwise i'm no longer "on" 24/7 ....i choose my batteries re-energized and assisting others each and every of the time can suck the existence precise out of ya, dontcha know.

That was inappropriate at best, and insensitive at worse. What a damn cheek! I would have mentioned it to someone in the surgery, she should have been advising you on the best type of diet and exercise to help you get over your illness, and prevent any relapse.

she probably didnt mean it to be rude but thats how i would have taken it. she most likely thought it was a nice gesture when in reality its insulting and out of line. u showed alot of restraint, class and grace by not kicking her teeth in which is how i would have wanted to respond in the situation like that! good for u for keeping ur cool and playing along with her offer. it was sort of a backhanded compliment..she was trying to help but did the opposite...im sorry :(

I think she was being insensitive to a person who has a very depressing condition. Please take no notice of that woman. Fancy implying you are over weight when you have Bronchitis.

Remember plenty of fluids and eat well. DON'T YOU DARE GO ON EBAY AND give that silly insensitive woman your money.

I spect she was wanting to tell people how well she had done. The clothes may be an excuse.

Anyway what ever happened to just giving people stuff you don't want any more. Why does everyone have to sell every thing on flippin E bay.
