I bought a mattress from my friend and I need it moved across town. I've hired a "man with a van" to do the moving. Basically, it's not a professional mover, but someone I found on craigslist who has a van and helps with moves on the weekend.

Anyway, there will be two men and they charge a flat fee of $75 for the move. I'm just moving a queen size mattress, nothing else, so it'll be quick and easy cash for them.

So in this situation, would you tip? Since they don't work for a company, 100% of that $75 will go into their pockets.

I live in New York City, so $75 is cheap for a move like this... otherwise I could see how it might seem expensive.

It's about a 25 minute drive between the two apartments.

Nope. If they wanted more, they'd charge more.

Tipping in this situation would be no different than telling Best Buy "no, charge me another 15% for that TV. I insist."

Tipping is such a personal choice. Unless of course courtesy demands it.
How well did they do the job? were they on time? Did they keep your property clean, and in good shape? Did they move the item to where it was to go, or just drop it off at your place? How difficult was it to move? (was it a light item, or one of those floppy hard to handle jobs?)
It is up to you! I like tipping a job well done, who knows when you might need them again! And if people remember you as a good customer, they are willing to go the extra mile for you the next time!!
Kindness breads kindness
as well as good manners!

They rely on the tips that could get an good salary. As a woman of God the pastor replaced into incorrect to punish the server with the tough words. especially situations lack of expertise is bliss. The server(s) could have disregarded it. My sister in regulation was a waiterss. One time somebody wrote this on the invoice: "that's your tip: do no longer anticipate one.".

Heck no unless they did such a splendid job.

Frankly $75 sounds like a LOT for only a queen size mattress.

I would not tip.

I think $75 for one mattress is enough. Don't worry about the tip.

NO...if they are not professional movers, they probably set the price of $75 themselves. You are right; a matress is an easy move...no tip!!

In this case I would say a tip is not necessary, although if they are really super nice and friendly, etc. you might consider a few extra bucks for the excellent service.

No I wouldn't tip. They haven't given you a special discounted rate or doing it as a favour, it's just business. The price is quite high considering the amount of work they will be doing.
