Different denominations have different paths to ordination.

There's a difference between ordained and licensed.

Once you're ordained by a denomination or a church, you take the certificate of ordination to the clerk of court, where you're licensed.

My denomination requires a Masters of Divinity for ordination -- which significantly influences the legitimacy of the ordination. I'm still working on my M. Div., so that's why I call myself a pastor, and not a minister. I'm a student pastor, I'm not a minister.

Godspeed.
