I have asked the officiant the question of price but there has yet to be an answer.. what would you suggest doing in a case like this. He is a close friend so I am lost.

Check with the church office, there is usually a suggested donation.
Otherwise, $100 would be usual if it's just for the ceremony itself. 250 if there have been pre-marital classes with him.
If he's a friend, he probably won't accept anything. You can give him some sort of gift later, if you like.
We had three priests do our ceremony, and none would accept payment. One was my husband's brother, the other two priests were friends.

Amanda we used an Officiant 5 months ago. She was a close friend of my wife. We send off a cheque for half the cost, $250 to the agency which she works for. The other half she wouldn't accept and was her gift to us. If your Officiant hasn't mentioned the cost then I would suggest you bring up the topic so as not to be too surprised after the ceremony. Best of luck with wedding.
