I told my hairdresser recently i needed to wash my hair every other day (it gets greasy again after a couple of days)...
He told me i should go to the doctor, that they might be able to get me some special shampoo or something to help...

I thought this was normal though???
I'm 18 (if thats any help) i assumed its just a teenage thing...
Hair gets greasy more often...etc.. yknow :p

Is it????

Is this not normal then???

I admit it's a pain, every other day

um....who doesn't wash their hair at least every couple of days? I worry about your hygiene if washing your hair every other day is a pain for you.

I have always had oily hair (I'm 45) and I wash my hair every day some times. What I found, though, is that my hair doesn't get as oily if I use a shampoo that's designed for getting hair products (gels and sprays) out of your hair.

A while back, the girl that cut my hair always washed my hair with Tigi Bedhead Self Absorbed shampoo before cutting it. She said it was good at removing oil from the hair and scalp, because it has an orange base (it smells like oranges). And, orange-based cleaners can be used as degreasers.

I have also used American Crew citrus/mint shampoo and it works well to remove the oil (it smells really good, too).

That is normal. If you have fine to normal hair, you need to at least wash your hair every other day-maybe even everyday. Only people with really thick hair don't need to wash their hair that often.

Anyway, to help, sometimes, by spraying a volumizer or light hold hair spray at the roots, that helps soak up some of that excess oil. Also, Sephora.com sells this awesome dry hairspray for oily hair, so you don't have to wash, blowdry, and restyle your hair every other day (that really gets to be a hassle), you just spray it at your roots, and brush your hair or run your hands through your hair, and you're good to go. Anyway, the best dry hairspray is made by Ojon. It keeps your smelling clean, and helps with the excess oil.

I need to wash my hair daily. I have a haircut though that needs very little upkeep so it is not too bad. Someone just told me that if you mix a little baking soda with your shampoo it helps to dry out your hair. I was told to do it only once a week though. I haven't tried it yet but maybe it will help you. Good Luck.

It could be chemicals in the brand of shampoo you're using. More expensive ones like Redken might help. Usually washing your hair every other day is the best way to keep it thick and healthy, but it could depend on the atmosphere around you or what activities you do.

I am 36 and still need to wash my hair EVERY day because it gets oily at the roots. My 14-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son have the same problem. I hesitate to call it a problem, really, as I know more people who need to wash their hair daily than less often.

Your hormones may be a contributing factor. And make sure you clean your brush and comb often.

This home remedy suggests you rinse your hair in a vinegar/water solution after you shampoo. The other is finely grated carrots. Here's the page I found. I hope it helps.
