I do not know Philadelphia area, but in other communities Goodwill is always a good bet. Salvation Army often has a thrift store. Many communities have Habitat for the Homeless, which builds homes for them, but then what furniture is to go into those homes? Well perhaps if they are building some new homes in your area, they might want to have a volunteer inspect your donation to see if it is suitable to go in one of those homes. Many charities have retail stores, but not in all communites. Look up in yellow pages for SOCIAL & HUMAN SERVICES for places like The Red Cross, then see which of them have local stores selling second hand furniture many of them will do pick ups

Maybe a YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Local church or community center. If it's in good shape, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting rid of it.

Try a community center, YMCA or a local group home for people with disabilities.

I would call your local goodwill or Salvation Army. They can point you in the right direction and get you proper tax credit for your donation as well.

In addition to finding a local place to donae, like a youth organization, consider using Yahoo Groups, specifically there is a "Freecycle" group, most likely in your area.

You list an item for free, and other members who would like it write to you and you can give it to them.
