There are stationary and moving modes on the speed measurement devices we use.
So, yes... we can get you coming or going, and if we are moving or stationary. And in any direction, too.

If a police officer's vehicle is equipped with a radar device that has moving-radar capability (which some police vehicles have), then the officer can use the device to clock your speed; there is nothing in Georgia's vehicle code that prohibits a police officer from operating a radar device while driving his/her vehicle. However, prior to issuing a citation -- provided that the officer used a radar device to clock your vehicle -- an officer is required to "notify each person against whom the officer intends to make a case based on the use of the radar device that the person has a right to request the officer to test the radar device for accuracy."

a speed gun used by an officer (either radar or lazer) can be used while the officer is in motion. This can happen because the radar picks up the front of the car and stopps at the end of the car then calculates the time it took the car to travel that distance... in a more scientific statment those radar guns measure in speed not velocity.

I had a small town cop pulled me over for no reason....I asked him the same quetion. Was going 2 or 3 miles an hour to the speed limit. I said, how do you know how fast I was going, I never saw a radar gun and you were moving slow, etc. Also other cars around. He gave me a warning after wasting 15 min's of my time..

Yes, a radar gun can be shot from a moving car. If the the control is set on mobile. When stationary the officer must place the radar on stationary.

Depends on the radar unit. The radar unit the State Patrol uses around here (Western Washington) do operate properly while the vehicle is in motion.

Depends on the type of radar. The newer ones you can be moving and accurately register the speed of the car in front of you and the car approaching you from on coming traffic.
The whole "sitting still" is a myth.

Any newer gun works either moving or stationary. There are also several that can look back and register a car's speed that is catching up to a police car.
The moral of the story is don't speed, at least excessively.

yes they can be in motion. here in nc though, the laws were situated where an officer must be able to guess the speed though, so moving radar can be hard to prove in court.
