Watch for drunk drivers. Check plates to see if the car is stolen, or for possible warrants. Keep telling yourself, only 3 more hours until I go home (seriously).

The way I always kept myself motivated is have a little radio. Or also, I would go in the quick mart and talk to the kid in there. Also, you can wash your windows. However, if it were to come during an evaluation, you need to be honest. We know when someone is trying to impress us. Don't impress us, we have done this for many years. Be truthful. It may come up again during a polygraph test. But the way to keep motivated is to do your job and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. Drink coffee and buy some donuts before your shift. It always helps to keep some sugar in your body. But work out afterwards during the day. Be honest, be noble and be a cop. That is the best advise this cop can give you.

You really have to care about what you are doing. Keeping innocent drivers safe from those who ignore the rules is an important job. The more alert you are, the better you will be able to identify potentially dangerous driving. If there is little traffic, you should stay alert by studying the features of the street, buildings, potential hazards. Even if you are not engaged actively in pulling someone over, there is much to learn at 3:00 a.m. on an empty street.

My brother is a police officer. He is not assigned specifically to "traffic watch", however traffic enforcement is a big part of the job. When things are slow, he cruises around in areas that have a higher crime rate looking for things that are out of place or for people that are up to no good.

Mr Security Guard cracked me up! Police aren't security guards. Their workload is just a tad more than that of someone walking around a canning plant at 2 AM. I'm sure if the person asking the questions says anything about napping on the job during her interview, she'll get a big, fat, 'Thank You' and shown the door.

I would make sure that my police radio was on loud, and I was using my police computer to assist other officers actively in looking up information on their pending arrests and individuals they have pulled over.

This will show the interviewer that you are willing to help your fellow officers, go above and beyond the call of duty because you really get nothing for helping look up stuff, and also shows an innovative, effective strategy for helping the PD look better by doing background checks quickly.

They will love this answer. Trust me.

just keep thinking "why am i doing this?" you should realize that you are doing your job to help others in need..think about how you can save someone and by the end of the day you will be happy that you have served your community
