If you saw someone who had passed away walking in front of you, and then disappearing, what would you think? Would you assume it was a ghost, that your mind was playing tricks on you, or something else?

Also, what are your religious beliefs?

(Inspired by a girl who said that ghosts are demons in disguise. I'm wondering if you were to actually experience something like this if you would rationalize it to fit your current mindset, or change that mindset.)

I think I would assume that my mind was either playing tricks on me or there was some kind of trick with the light/other logical explanation. I would also assume I saw it because I was grieving over the person who just passed away and had them in my mind.
I do not believe in any sort of religion, thus I suppose I would be called an atheist.

Agnostic

My reaction would depend on the experience. If I see a deceased face race by me, I’d probably write it off to my imagination. However, if an actual spirit plopped down on my couch and stared at me, I would either think it was an apparition or think that I lost my mind. In that case, I might talk to him or her, ask him why he’s visiting, or tell her that she’s supposed to be dead. Either way, the encounter would be slightly unsettling.

(A bit off topic- Let me share this quick note similar to what the girl said about ghosts actully being demons. I once heard that people regressed by hypnosis into past lives were only telling false stories whispered to them by demons. Strange, yes?)

If i saw something like that I would assume that I'd finally lost touch with reality.... or that I'd been drugged without my knowledge. In any case, there is no doubt that I would not attempt to attach the vision to something I knew had no foundation in reality. Though I may be occasionally wrong about things, I am seldom a complete fool and an idiot.

The metaphysical explanations given for occurrences are ALL bunk in a basket. I don't believe them at all and I find that as a result I'm in the company of some rather noteworthy folks who happen to agree with me entirely on the issue.

I'd assume it was a trick of the mind as that has happened to me before, but only after watching a lot of scary films and being awake for 48 hours.

If it happened more than once i'd get freaked out and if it happened three times i'd see a shrink.

if it was someone i had known, i would think that it was because he/she was on my mind and i THINK that i saw them.

as for my religious beliefs, i'm not sure where i stand yet, i'm still looking around and trying to figure things out. i do know that i don't agree with any of the organized religions i've looked into, they just seem to be too rigid (you have to believe this and you have to do that, blah blah blah) i guess i'd say i do believe in a god or higher power and would like to believe that somehow we are "reunited" with people we've lost in the past. my only problem with that is what about the people we've wronged? are they still going to hold a grudge?

Depends on my state of mind.

If I was really tired, or otherwise incapacitated, I would probably just dismiss it.

If I was fully alert, I am not sure. I would definitely want to investigate further.

Knowing how easy it is to fool the human brain, my mind playing tricks would be my default position, but I would be open to any reliable evidence otherwise.

I would first assume tricks of the mind. Especially if I happened to be not in the best of mental health or tired or otherwise distracted.

If it happened repeatedly, I would go in for psychological evalutation or talk to a doctor.

I would probably assume it was a trick of my mind, unless it continued happening and other people saw the same thing when they were around me.

Well I would have to be sober, and have seen the image clearly.

Things I would not trust:

-Someone else telling me they saw a ghost
-Any picture or video (editing programs are simply too good now)
-Myself, on shrooms or something.
