this is a question for a police officer/fbi agent/ any one who uses hand cuffs in their professions. how would you hand cuff aperson with one hand or one arm... I realize that this is one of those questions thats not supposed to have an answer but it got me thinking about it and there has to be a way to do it

I've arrests several people with a portion of their hand or other limb missing.

With a missing hand there are two methods...

1) cuff the good hand looping the cuff links through the belt and cuffing the second cuff next to the first cuff on the good hand.

2) As one other responder stated, use a belly chain which uses the cuffs and use both cuffs on the good hand with the cuffs looped through the belly chain.

I've never had to cuff anyone (I'm not a cop) but that is how I've seen it done. The use of a belly chain is an option or to cuff the intact hand side and loop the cuff through the beltloops of the person's pants (won't work if there are no beltloops).

If I have to restrain someone in the ambulance, I'll use soft restraints, strips of gauze or the best of all...duct tape...you can't break it and sure can't untie it.
