until my staffie got out, he was fine, but i am wondering if he could have swallowed something. apart from the cough and being sick a few times, he seems healthy enough, but the cough is worrying me.

Sounds like kennel cough or he/she could have eaten something that is lodged in their throat. More than likely it's kennel cough, you may want to visit your vet and get some medication. Sometimes if left untreated it can develop into pnemonia(sp), kennel cough take a while to cure if your lucky it will subside with meds in 2 weeks if not it can take up to 2 months.

Could be what is called "Kennel Cough". It can be transmitted from a mile away....they will usually have a cough sometimes associated with runny nose and eyes, treated sometimes with antibiotics. If he is not eating/drinking, has colored discharge, or is vomiting and having loose stools this is cause for concern. Either way, take him to the Vet as soon as you can.

It sounds like your dog has kennel cough. Is he up to date on his shots? In particular bordatella? If not, it's most likely kennel cough. Which is treatable. Still, you should take him to the vet and have him checked out. Hope everything is ok.

One of very many good reasons not to leave a dog outside unattended. Get him to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment.

Perhaps this is not an answer to your question. Be more careful with your pup. Dog haters and sickos target especially these bully breeds. Watch him especially around Halloween.
