Does it prohibit most of what you want to do?
How do you keep from going insane? or is that impossible?
Have you ever thought that the reason for those rules was to ensure that you behave how those in charge want you to behave?
To make you willing to die for them instead of them having to die?

I climbed out of the box, decided I could colour outside the lines and bucked uniformity when I realized my individuality.
I have a god of my own understanding and we get along quite sanely.
I don't need written words to guide me through life morally...and when I die, I know I will be at peace with who I am

No. Sure, there are some things Christians are told not to do...but I really don't want to do them anyways. Sometimes I get frustrated because it's not always the easy road to travel. A lot of what we are expected (by God and not by our pastors, just in case you wondered!) to do requires self-control and selflessness, and some days it's a real struggle. Not to mention all the crap you take from people for believing the Bible and having actual morals and talking about creation....

Truly, though, I feel free. And I AM free! I am free from the burden of my sins because Jesus paid for them all. And now that I have Him to help me live right, I am free from the consequences of so many bad choices that I otherwise would have made. Oh, I wish everyone could feel this freedom!

(clarification: previous religion)

1. Yes, it did prohibit quite a bit, but not the most important things.

2. Insanity was attributed to the devil's work.

3. Yes--and give them your money.

4. Never got that intense for me.

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." 2 Cor.3:17.

This the Bible calls "the glorious liberty of the children of God." Romans 8:21.

"So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty." James 2:12. "But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it.... this one will be blessed in what he does." James 1:25.

This law of liberty is not the mere letter of the law but the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:2.

Does that sound like someone who feels "boxed in" by his religion?

Far from it! :)

Thus it is written, "You, O Lord, are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes I have a good inheritance." Psalm 16:6.

I have never felt boxed in by my religion, what my religion says to avoid are all good things to avoid. What is it that you want to do? What is your religion? The "rules" (though I'm not sure that applies here) of my religion are to ensure a happy, productive, and meaningful life, while avoiding self inflicted suffering.
Not sure what you mean by "To make you willing to die for them instead of them having to die?".
anyway, my religion rocks!(Christianity)

The answer is in your question. Only people who follow RELIGION feel boxed in.

True Children of God are free from all boxes.

No, as a matter of fact I felt boxed in by life before I became a Christian. Following Jesus frees our souls. There is nothing I want to do that I can't do. A relationship with God just changes your "want tos". I have no desire for my old way of life, thank God.

I love my religion. I enjoy worshipping Allah. It gives me peace of mind and peace. I feel closeness to God. God commands to give needy from what God gives us. Helping poor is one of the pillars of Islam. I feel good helping some one when ever I can. It feels me much better doing it. When I am short of money for my extra needs, God always solves my problems because by inspiring some one who volunteers and helps me.

Sometimes, but the reward of endurance, is a solid fortitude in knowing who I am, and what my role in the world is - like the bolts, bearings, pistons and valves in an engine all know their place.

I'm an atheist, so I only feel free... until I run into a theistic fanatic that is contributing to ruining the world with their backward point of view. It happens everyday.
