Does it cause unbelievers to doubt our credibility in our Christian faith if we're wearing True Religion jeans and carrying Coach purses (for example)?

For that matter, I wonder if driving a new car is a bad for the Christian's image? I wonder how many people here have a brand new car but do not believe in designer duds?
I have an old car that squeaks and rattles from 1997. It gets me around though! :)

I think we need to dress both modestly and fashionably. Jesus did! There's an idea that is in many religious circles that to be spiritual one needs to dress with Salvation Army clothing or like the Amish. That just isn't true. But we don't need to be wearing low-rider jeans or tiny tops either! When the Roman guards threw dice for Jesus' clothing it wasn't because He was famous or because they believed Him to be the Son of God. It was because He was wearing some high quality, fashionable clothing! In my opinion, Christians should be the sharpest dressers with not only the cleanest clothes but also the cleanest hearts and mouths. We need to clothe ourselves with Christ (Rom 13:14)

Would you own these items because they are well made and will last a long time, or because of vanity? The answer to that question will answer your question.

Answer Part 2

To follow up on other points I read like Steinbec... there are some very good thoughts.

Whether it's a new car, designer clothes, our home, furnishings, cell phone, i-pod, blackberry, TV, stereo, or another thing we own, I believe it's what is in our hearts that matter.

The Christian faith never said that we wouldn't be good Christians if we were not poor. The faith keys in on modesty, lack of greed, and putting our possessions in perspective of value to us where they are not too important.

Over the top pride is also a terrible thing. It's just like our possessions. Yes we have it, no we shouldn't wear it like a badge of our value. Our Christian values and beliefs are our value, not being so proud of the fact we prove it that we wear a sweater made of hair to suffer for our values. Even arrogant pride of appearing poor, living a very modest lifestyle, and being a "super Christian" is still undue pride. Just like the undue pride some people have of their designer clothes. Instead of undue pride, I feel fortunate I am able to live as a Christian and I feel fortunate to have some of the things I have. For one of us to look at another and trumpet our possessions, or lack of them, its all just undue pride shouting I am better then you in this way...or that way. Is there really a difference in whether the person is shouting "I have a plasma TV" or shouting "I DON'T have a plasma TV."?

I'm not a rich man, but I do pretty well and I feel fortunate. I like hard work.

I drive a truck. It's four years old. Was I less a Christian when it was new? Will I be a better Christian when it is 12 years old?

I own three homes. Am I a better Christian because less fortunate family lives in two of them free or near free? I think the Lord would love me even if I chose to rent them out.

It's what is in your heart that matters. The minute you worship a possession or a bragging point, no matter what it is, you may want to question your heart why. If you happen to own, or do, something good and you don't have undue pride, I believe there is no reason to feel your values are something to be ashamed of.

I think wearing trashy clothing--revealing and sexually stimulating clothing hurts any Christians witness much more!

It says our dress should be MODEST. I really enjoy dressing nicely--and wear designer clothing--but ALL of my clothes that are designer labelled comes from the second hand stores!

Our witness is more than what we wear--it is also the inner person of the heart. Are we humble? Are we thankful for what we have? Do we share what we have with others? Do we focus our time wisely--not just on the pursuits of pleasure out there but also on the Godly pursuits of bible study and prayer?

Our clothing should not bring attention to us! It should simply reflect a certain level of self-respect (we have good grooming and our clothes are clean) and doing so shows we care for ourselves.

Jesus emphasized that the outer display of righteousness was not as important as the inner heart of man.

As a nonbeliever, I do know the bible. You know the Adam & eve story. LOL

I think if you are a true xian you should not be wearing designer clothing while your brothers & sisters are starving. That goes against xian docturine. I am not surprised though, xians always pick & choose which scriptures they want enforce. They no longer stone unruly children & have completely forgotten blue law. Many choose to live greedy, while others go without, but wow, if you are gay, you are evil, or if you are Atheist, you are going to hell, these words of God, they remember. It is just silly & ignorant.

It doesn't hurt but it could be taken the wrong way. Same thing with Christians who smoke cigarettes. There is nothing wrong about it in and of itself but it could serve as a stumbling block for others.

Also, the one wearing them should have their priorities straight. This meaning that they shouldn't look to designer clothing as being equal or as important as our life with Christ.

They should be able to ask themselves, "Could I do without these designer clothes and still remain a faithful and strong Christian?"

Everyone likes nice clothes. But a designer name does not make it better only costlier. What is more important is for the clothes you wear to be neat and presentable. Your appearance should give a fine witness without your saying anything.

Islam teaches that Muslim women must cover from head to toe accept they can leave their hands and face uncovered. It requires to wear loose outfits so women's body curse do not show and attract attention of lusty eyes.

Most Muslims and even non-Muslims respect Muslim women who modestly cover themselves like they respect their own nuns. Islam does not specify what type of outfits must be worn. Women have plenty of choices to wear clothes that make them feel good.

When a man is interested in a Muslim girl that covers, usually what attracts him is her belief, how she talkes, her manners and her intelligence her facial beauty because that is all he concentrate, . When a man start loving such girl for her qualities, he never stop loving her. For this reason Muslims do not have as many divorces as Christians in west have.

it relatively is as much as you what you purchase your new child. If persons have a difficulty with it then so be it. It shouldn't difficulty you. i might think of it would get grimy and such as you reported they improve out of it quickly. yet what you reported would not seem to costly. in case you spent a hundred and easily have been given the two shirts or in simple terms the shoes which would be terrible yet a hundred for 3 shirts hat and shoes seems approximately precise. a splash severe yet no longer via lots. i replaced into on the mall with my husband and seen a shirt we actually cherished for our son. offered it for $20. i do no longer likely like the clothing at walmart for my youngsters no longer because of the fact they lack high quality they're often no longer that lovable to me. i for my area does no longer save at a place like that for my youngsters (or me, Ihate their clothing!) yet you do what you opt for.

Personally I don't like wearing clothes with labels, I mean you know those really expensive designer clothes. Not only can I not afford them *smile*, I just think it's a silly status/vanity thing.

You can dress nicely and not be flashy or obvious.
