ig·no·rant /ˈɪgnərənt/
–adjective
1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
3. uninformed; unaware.
4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.
Many religions dictate something or some things that need to occur in order to reap the big reward after this life. You must live a certain way, accept a certain something etc.
What do you believe will happen to those who have never even heard of your religion, your God, your way of life?
For instance, there are still people living freely on the land in some countries in a manner that we would feel is "uncivilized". What is going to happen to them when they "die"?
Additionally, if they are going to Hell or whatever the consequence do you personally accept that as right or fair to penalize a human being for never having heard about your religion?

You pose a worthwhile question.
Those that don't know the law of God will not be judged by the law. They go to a place where they can still be taught and then have a chance in their spirit existence to accept the law once they have learned it. God is just and will give all of His children a chance to learn, understand and accept or reject His plan for us. Innocents do not go to hell because they were ignorant. That would be highly unjust of God to do so. He does not do so.
We were all with God in a premortal existence. We learned His plan for us, that we would come to earth in a mortal condition to learn to choose for ourselves to follow right or wrong. Some were placed in a condition or situation where they could never learn of the gospel during mortality. These are judged upon what they did with what portion of truth they did receive or possess. Then, when they die, they go to a place where they can continue to learn what they did not learn on earth. Then, while awaiting the resurrection, they can choose to accept the gospel plan and be judged just like everybody else. This is why little children who die are able to return to heaven because they were innocent in their death, knowing neither good nor evil, never having chosen for themselves to accept or reject because they never learned about it in their tender age.
Rest assured, God is just and only holds us accountable for what we do with what He gives us. Thus, we are all equal in His eyes.

You know something those people are free. They are living. I don't think it matters what religion you are. As long as you live a good life with no regrets. Who cares what happens when you die. You'll never truly know what happens until that moment. This idea of heaven and hell is a fantasy. So stop worrying about something that hasn't even happened yet. Live like there is no tomorrow. Because tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

I am much more concerned about ignorant people in this current life that vote or recommend that their ignorance be taught in schools. Note: I am not saying religions or any specific religion, but there are quite a few people who accept blatant misconceptions and never check to see if they are accurate.

Everyone will be judged righteously, according to what they know and their ability to understand.
There is no need to be concerned with some supposed character who may or may not exist in some jungle somewhere. God is just. He will only judge according to the knowledge one has, He will never hold anyone liable for knowledge they never received.

God will come back once everyone who is able to hear the Gospel does. It's up to each individual to decide whether they accept it or not. But, there will be judgement and no man will be able to say "I did not know."
*** Rom 1:18-21 (NIV)
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
