Back in the old days women were property. Especially their virginity.

If you took a woman's virginity she couldn't be married of to anybody else and her father lost the opportunity to make a few extra sheep.

You had to pay her father for his losses.

In Islam the rapist is stoned to death, not given 5 years in a luxury prison, then let out in 2 for good behavior. The women faces a life sentance so where's the justice in that.

God gave this rule for MAN's benifit, not His. Man is greedy and therefore would want justice for his losses. God wouldn't have set a price if man wouldn't have been so greedy. Just like Jesus said about divorce-He only set that rule because of the hardness of men's heart. However, as for marrying the woman, that is God's decree, becuase the Bible says it is better to marry that to lust.

If you assume a literal interpretation of the bible then you're screwed.

I for one don't harbor a notion that the bible is anything more then a set of "stories" some of which are of value and some are horrid.

Look at the book of Proverbs and I see a lot of common sense. Look at Leviticus and some of it is common sense and much is ghastly.

Apparently a few thousand years ago, God believed that marriage and 50 bucks was just punishment for rape. And thats coming from a guy who thinks its ok to torture you forever if you can't find him.

He must have really thought little about women.

Christians don't believe in rape--it's an accidental sexual encounter--blame free will, it's all Eve's fault
