Let's say that everyone were atheist (to the point that the term itself didn't even exist), and there were no religion, no concepts or ideas of gods, etc.

Someone buys 30 minutes of national TV air time in order to pitch the idea of God, Heaven, the Bible (that several men -- some not even knowing the others -- had taken the time to write), and how you must accept this as absolute and undeniable truth, or you will suffer eternal consequences following your death, would the general public buy into it in 2007?

Why or why not?

The concept would probably have an appeal based upon one's negative experience in this life: i.e. the worse one had it here, the more one would want to believe in something after this where one could be happier.

The be conscious "adoption" makes human beings loopy. Adopting would not make everyone a saint. international: Oh! you're saving a infant from a grimy orphanage. Foster care: you're saving a infant from transforming into older out. inner maximum new child: you're saving a infant from nasty birf muthas. each and every variety of adoption has a diverse explanation for the 'humanitarian" result, yet human beings tend to bypass over the ramifications of the adoption and are blinded by making use of the glorified "saint" result. human beings could by no skill undertake for humanitarian motives, human beings could undertake FOR the toddlers, to not be glorified. Adoption from foster care could be for the only objective of giving the chlid a greater useful destiny and helping the infant via all in existence. this is an identical with each and everything. An observed infant desires mom and father that may additionally help, handbook, and by no skill provide up loving and correctly as mom and father which will constantly be there. In adoption, you quite could have each and every of the suitable motives and not be adopting on the thought of humanitarianism.

Regardless of having a world full of "atheists" and no idea of religion or God/Supreme Being people by nature want to be led so they'd buy the ideas in droves. It's difficult to place ones faith in Humanity where it belongs given the poor choices we all make both collectively and individually, so that vacuum is taken up by the concept/idea of God.

Sad to say but the media/television are quite powerful influences. Look at marketing studies and see just how successful some ideas are if pitched right and marketed with intense saturation. Consider the popularity of people like Oprah, Doctor Phil etc. They persuade masses of people to buy this book, eat this food, do this exercise..... we are very malleable in the end.

Yep.

There are all types of people in the world, and some will do anything to be a part of a group.

Imagine being a cubs fan after all this time and with a complete lack of evidence that they will ever get a World Series trophy.

I highly doubt it. Unless in this alternate universe the government were drugging the whole populace to the point were we are drooling I doubt it. Just for the simple fact 30 minutes isn't even enough time to read 10 pages in the Bible let alone explain who god, Jesus, all the men who wrote it are supposed to be. If even given the ample time to explain I would say that everyone would be enthralled with science to the point people are enthralled with deities in our own universe.

With the right marketing team, most definitely.

There's a book called "Survivor" by the guy who wrote fight club. There's many aspects to it, but part of it is the main character being sold as a Messiah to the American people. I have no doubt that this could happen.

Some people would likely go for it, but a lot more would think, what is this guy trying to sell me? Can you believe somebody made up this story about some people and we're supposed to follow it with faith and that's it? What a bunch of horse puckey!

Yes - the same people who continually buy the newest miracle diet pill that works while you eat nothing but donuts or the infomercial vaccuum that also folds laundry and makes toast, will buy into the religion thing.
