Or something which is unlikely, impossible to prove and illogical. Something which requires you to ignore all evidence to the contrary and which you dare not discuss for fear of being proved wrong?

Searcher, in the context of being the only God you can find proof that He is not the only one in Exodus 20.5 and 34.14 in which He says he is a jealous God. If he is the only one he is jealous of whom? In Psalms 82.1 and 82.6 you find Him in discussions with other Gods.

Lady Phoenix, There are more alternatives to God than simply an accident. Could God have been an astranaut from a scientifically more advanced civilisation, for example, who gave us knowledge and even modified us as an experiment?

The Christians seem determined to follow such a narrow and censored interpretation of religion. If the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and other civilisations believed in more than one God why should their reasoning be wrong. You follow Yahweh (also known as Jehovah and YHWH but deny the more senior father of all Gods Elyon, and you ignore Baal, Amen and other contemporaries even though you acknowledge the god Amen at the end of every prayer you say.

Dewcoons, how can God actually mentioning and talking to other Gods not be proof that they existed. Are you saying He was delusional?

Dewcoons, the Psalms references are of Him actually talking to other Gods. How much proof do you need?

Um no.
Faith is putting trust on something or someone who has the ability that you lack.
Heck I don't understand Civil Engineering but I have faith that whoever built the building I am in right now that this building will not fall on the ground for no appearent reason.
And if the building collapse, the trust is broken and you lose faith.
In the same way that Astronauts put faith on Engineers who built the Space Shuttles.
If you don't use faith, you'll ended up alone doing everything yourself because you can't trust anyone.
Thus, in the same way Christians have faith in God.

None of the references you gave are a proof of other gods existing. That are a proof that people were wanting to worship "other gods", just as people of other religions do today. God prohibits that practice. That is a very different thing from there being other gods.
And the scriptures in Psalms do make references to God taking council among the "gods" - Hebrew word being "elohim". You will find it used severl times as a generic term that refers to being that are spiritual as opposed to physical. The Christian faith teaches that there are many spiritual beings, including angels and demons. This scripture refers to God holding council with his angels, not woth other being of equal power or ability to himself.
Sorry, but none of the references you gave state that there are other existing dieties besides God.

"Now faith is being SURE of what we hope for and CERTAIN of what we do not see." Hebrews11:1
"...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the REASON for the hope that you have" 1Peter 3:15
God performs miracles everyday, Jesus performed them in the days He walked on earth, the Bible also tells us "..what may be known about God is plain to them because God made it plain to them. "...(read all of Romans 1:19-20)
Having faith in God if there wasn't tangible proof, if we didn't see or hear or feel Him...if He was just an idea or a theory, would be as foolish as believing that a genie will come to you and take away all your problems and make you rich.
God is a God of love;He can't help but reach out to people and try to get their attention so that He can fellowship with them. God is a God of creation and His creation is too awesome and complex to ever be able to be explained away logically.
God gives us reasons to have faith in Him, then He tells us to have faith, then He gives us more reasons to have faith in Him. He doesn't expect us to open our skulls and remove our brains when we accept Him as saviour....He's the one who gave us those brains to begin with.

this question is somewhat biased. Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. In other words its believing what you have not seen for yourself. I guess this is aimed at Christianity so I'll answer from that view point. There has been evidence that some of the thing si nt eh bible occured. On the everyday living side you have faith that your car will start, you had faith that your parents would take care of you. You didn't know it for sure in the begining but you had faith. You hoped it would. So is that kind of faith illogical and impossible?

Nope.
If it didnt have relevence or in someway prove itself people would not belive it.
I know many chrsitians who would be willing to talk to you about there faith, and could probablly unravel any arguments you have without using "faith".
Athiests need to be more concerened with not becoming that which they so hate.
Athiesms little temper tantrum is old news. If religion really is a waste of time and it dosent matter then you are proving you do belive. Becuse you are going out of your way to "Convert" the christians the same way they seek to do it to you.
If you want to get back at them, dont. Its what some of them want. They Need to feel the prescence of an adversary, without it there faith is meaningless. Ignore them. they want attention, dont give it to them. You seem to feel that they have all the power. But in fact you have as much power as they do. Just as I, just as any faith.

If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents - the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms. And this holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for anyone else's. But if their thoughts - i.e., Materialism and Astronomy - are mere accidental by-products, why should we believe them to be true? I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It's like expecting the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milk-jug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset.

Your question is illogical. When there is no evidence one way or another, than any thoughts based on a possible conclusion are based on faith, intuition or other thought that is not based on concrete evidence.
