Leaving aside the extreme violence for a moment (and there is plenty of that in the bible including genocide and bears attacking and devouring children) the sexual escapades in the bible would definitely earn it an XXX rating.
Solomon had how many concubines?
Lot did it with both of his daughters...
The list goes on and on.
Suffice to say, I won't let my kids read such a violent and pornographic piece of fiction that's for sure.

Fatima,
you're "true history" leaves MUCH to be desired.
For instance, if the jews spent 40 years wandering the desert (what? NO sense of direction?) then they would have left SOME evidence wouldn't they?
But they did'nt.
Same goes for Soddom and Gomorrah, and SO many other places and events that the word "fantasy" doesn't even begin to do this fairy tale justice.

It would probably get an "R" rating with add on warnings for violence and nudity, etc..
If there were other categories... like "DD" for dishonest and disgustingly naive... and "S" for stupid, it would get those, too..

Most movies based on the Bible get either a "G" or "PG" rating.
The official MPAA ratings are:
* G: General admission
* PG: Parental Guidance;
* PG-13 : Parent Caution;
* R: Restricted;
* NC-17: Nobody under age 17;
Obsolete ratings are:
* GP: General
* M: Mature audiences;
* X: Nobdy under age 17;
* C: Children;
* Y: Young people;
* MY: Mature young people;
* A: Adult
Self inflicted ratings are:
* XX: Simulated sex;
* XXX: Hard core sex;
The rating a particular passage would receive depends upon how much violence and how much nudity/sex is in it.
The story of Lot and his daughters could be anything between G and XXX. "G" if shot from outside the tent, with some audio. "XXX" if explicit sexual activity is included.
Solomon and his concubines would be used for a TV commercial for Viagra.
Neither the sexual content, nor the violence in the Bible is greater than that of other books.

Wake up my friend; more movies have been made about the Bible than any other book.
Remember, the Bible tells the story of the History of the Jews. A true History of any people would include positives and negatives, highs and lows, good and bad...etc. etc.
Some Bible movies are made for children where the negatives and lows are left out. Some (like David) are made for adults. My favourite Bible Movie is 'The Ten Commandments' With Charlton Heston and Mule Brina; wonderful movie...even for kids.
I agree with you that very small kids should not be exposed to violent reading in any form, however, in our world today, kids grow up quickly and learn according to his environment...you know?
Do you allow your kids to watch the seven o'clock news???? Some of it could be worst than any negative bible story.
Now what really is your problem? Feel free to tell me personally.

Possibly NC-17. I, for one, am glad that Mel Gibson stuck to the depiction of Christ's life and death and didn't direct the death of those children by the bears, or the slaughtering of the first born of Egypt, or the dashing of little babies against the rocks. If so, we'd probably see it all in graphic, Braveheart-reminiscent, detail.

neither - with all the begetting between Adam and Eve's children, it would more than likely be a banned movie

Most likely an R. It would have to be in sequels and some of it would be G and PG also.
