What could cause it? There are many explanations for what could be causing these problems. Dim lights? Lights are electrical. If your electrical system is old or overloaded it can cause lights to dim. The burning smell could come from your furnace, or some place else. Your dog could be barking at a mouse, or just be afraid of that particular spot.

Paranormal explanations should come as a last resort, not your first. There is no reason to believe ghosts exist anyway. There is always a natural explanation for what many people see as paranormal activity. It just comes down to whether they wish to believe the logical explanation or the magical one.

You'll find a paranormal area under Science & Math/Alternative. That might be a better place to post this question.

well i clicked your question because I'm a ghost hunter, but sounds like you have an electrical problem.are the three rooms on the same breaker, could be an overload.the burnt smell could be your wires heating up,do you keep the dog food in the pantry?your dog could be saying feed me.to see if there's ghost in the house get you a digital camera and a voice recorder, then wait till after midnight turn all the lights off in the house and say I'm going to take some pictures and if there's any spirits in this house i want some proof.turn the voice recorder on and start asking questions, then pause for the answer, you will not hear it with your ears but after you go threw the whole house taking pictures and asking questions, listen to the recorder it's best to use ear phones to listen.and look at the pictures to see if you caught any thing.good luck.to be on the safe side check your breakers and wires.

There could have been a fire in your home before you lived there, and sometimes odors can be absorbed into the walls and then escape during temperature and humidity changes. Also, you could have issues with your wiring. Or, sometimes at my house, when the a/c kicks on, the lights will dim for a second in certain parts of the house based on where the a/c is wired in. As far as your dog, dogs freak out over the goofiest things. Maybe there is a mouse or insect, or maybe the previous owners had a pet they kept around there. My cat freaks out when she sees the vacuum cleaner, even when it isn't running. If you really think you have a ghost, call or write to GhostHunters (TAPS). Although, I doubt it.

Animals will get spooked if they hear scratching in the walls from mice or roaches, get some traps and see what you catch(my cat wont' catch 'em but tells me when I have a problem).
Hire an electrician to check your fuse box, dimming lights mean there might be a short somewhere in your house.
Which could also explain the 'burning smell' I would definitely get this checked before you have a house fire!

WoW...that is freaky! Ever since I started watching Most Haunted, I believe this kind of stuff does happen. I also had an experience one time at my grandparents house...literally within seconds, 2 different pictures on walls in different rooms came crashing down on the floor. On top of that the pictures were one of Jesus and the Other of Mary! Spooky huh? I hope this isn't stressing you too much, but I'd ask around to some more professional people in this field....and you know what they same about dogs, cats and especially babies having an insight that we may not all have. Happy Halloween! D

Does the living room have a fire place? Sometimes
you can smell the burning smell even though there
is no fire going. The lights sounds like power surges
like the first person answered. As for your dog being
spooked by the pantry I couldn't say, maybe it has
a smell your dog doesn't like.

1. burning: check your heater filter/heater in general.

2. lights: turning on certain appliances or the heater/air conditioning coming on can cause this

3. dog: there could either be a small in there or the dog does not like the small space (dog claustrophobia :D )

4. Your house could just be haunted!

EDIT: About the wiring, EMF (electro-magnetic fields) could be the cause of the dog being freaked out by the pantry. Those fields can be cause be ghosts and such or by electricity. It can cause fear, dizziness, vertigo, nausea, and make it feel like some thing's watching you. The dog could just be feeling those effects.

Wow, that is a bit freaky.
You know, they say that animals can see things that humans cannot.
If I were in your position, I would pay close attention to the dog's behavior. If he seemed scared, then I'd call someone to bless the house.
I had a problem similar to this one, except the dog actually ran away and didn't come back until I had the house blessed! Kind of ironic, but it's true.
I hope this helps you; good luck =)

If you smell something burning and the lights go dim..........I would say call the power company and have them check the wiring etc.
